Madmax???

Hi,
I just found out about this section of CPF, and I think this is the place to ask my question.

I was reading about a MadMax+ LuxIII that could go in a Minimag. I read it has about 65 lumens and runs for 1.25 - 2 hours. I don't know if that's correct or not, but if it is, I would like to get one. I only know of one place to get them (here: http://anlighten.com/shop/default.php) but I don't think they have the one I want in stock. I was wanting the Q3 version because that's supposed to be the neutral white color and I want a white light. Maybe someone could tell me exactly which one it is I want, and how to get it.

I want the brightest thing I can get in a white color for an AA Mini Mag Lite. Could anyone please tell me how to get one of these?

Dat2Zip sells drop in modules. They all have 1W luxeon emitter. What you are loking for is Luxeon III which is 3W luxeon. He also sells converter boards and emitter boards and luxeon III emitters. You would have to put it together. The Q3x you speak about is 1W with older system of code marking. The 3W are marked like TW0K. The first letter in the code means the brightnes. But if you search the forum for "luxeon bin codes" you will find lot of info to help you decide which emitter is best for you.

I should guess that it is the madmax+ Wide Open you are after. That one is brighter than the other madmaxes.

Is the madmax+ available right now?

If I got the BB750 with LuxIII, would I have to do any soldering, or does it all just go together? Is there anything available at the moment on their site that will just go together easily without soldering that will produce at-least 60 lumens of light for a AA minimag?

building your own sandwich will require some decent soldering skills...
weather it's a MadMax or a BadBoy.

I have one of the MM+ WO LuxIII S bin modules that Wayne offered in early December. It is great, and I believe it has the SWAM emitter on it. A very nice beam with a very slight warm tint to it. I want to say it is 'rose' colored, but I don't think that is possible. I have a TWAK mated with a BB750. Both are bright white, but when compared directly, the TWAK is the cooler (or maybe more neutral) of the two.

If you have good soldering skills, just get the components separately and build your own. There's no telling when Wayne will have more available. And they are usually all sold within hours of being posted.

The only thing I would question is your 60 lumen requirement. The modules with LuxIII devices are very bright, but I really doubt they approach 60 lumens. I'm guessing 40-45 is more likely, but have nothing to measure with.

Wayne, how well do the sandwiches work in Minimags at such high currents? Do they overheat? Do they get reasonable runtime with alkaline batteries?

The Madmaxs work quite well in the 2AA flashlights. They can get warm to hot, but, so do all the other Luxeon lights.

They do not overheat and they get good runtimes too.

The MM+ gets about an hour on good NiMH batteries while the MM regular can get over 2 hours of solid useful light on a set of batteries.
