There is another CPFer out there called Hotbeam. He makes a dandy heatsink he calls "Hotlips". I bought one, and love it. My light is direct drive TWOK LuxIII. Simple yet effective. Used the stock reflector just had to cut the cam off. Later installed a sputtered reflector by darkzero /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I second the hotlips. I just put a hotlips C and a LuxV in a 2C mad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif very nice.

If you want a "drop in" get a ledcorp.I have 2 and they are great.I personally wouldn't deal with quaility online.They still ahve not resolved a 2 month old issue with me.I keep getting the run around! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

Sorry, I didn't understand much of that. OK, actually I didn't understand any of it: my technical knowledge can be expressed in negative numbers.
What is a "heat sink"? And what the heck is a "TWOK" (or a "sputtered reflector", for that matter)?

a Heat Sink is a piece of aluminum that pulls the heat way from the LED so that the heat doesnt destroy the emmitter. Hotbeam's name is Howard and he's in Australia, He makes Heat sinks specifically for the C and D size Mags. He even offers them with LED's already attached. TWOK refered to the Bin code of the LED. for your purposes you dont need to worry about it as any that you'd get from Howard would be good ones. What you want is a "Hotlips-D #2 with a LuxIII"
Check out this webpage for info on how to build yoru light. It was done with exactly what you need to order.

A sputtered reflector is kinda harder to explain, when you look at the reflector in your Mag-lite that you have right now, you'll notice that it's perfectally smooth and shiny like a mirror, a sputtered reflector is slightly bumpy all over. This makes the light output a little more smooth.

Sputtering the reflector can be done by spraying some clear paint like Krylon onto the surface of the reflector. The objective it to frost the surface to even out the projected beam of light. Another strategy is to frost the lens or stick on some frosty plastic like Write Right. This is similar to translucent shelf paper and will achieve the same result.
