One of my best friends teaches a Concealed Handgun License class, and I help him some.
This last week he taught a night class which was 4 nights 7-10. Another friend who was taking the class ask me if we taught anything about flashlights. Normally we do not. That is not because they are not useful for self defense, but because of time, and the required subjects take all the time.
But one night I brought several lights including a PM6. I announced that I would talk about flashlights for a few minutes. One of the students immediately went to his car and brought in a 5 D Mag. He announced that this was a light.

I shined his light on the wall of the large dining hall we were in, and then the PM6. It was no contest. He thought maybe his light was not focused and attempted to make it better. When he finished we tried again, and the PM6 simply destroyed the Mag. I do not know how much the batteries in his light had been used.

Several people then asked me what the light cost and where to get one. I enjoyed the "experience."

Hi Jerry,

this might happen all the time when people that are not well versed in flashlights see the output of those little
suckers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Last saturday I was invited to a garden party and one of the guys next table (highly put on airs) was very proud with his 3D Maglite and beamed to a house roughly 30 meters
away.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Suddenly he switched his light off beeing highly astonished
that his "light" was blown away by a "real" light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
When he realized this beam came out of my "almost empty" hand just holding that cute little PM6 he was ashamed (a little bit) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif and for the next 5 or 6 or.......
beer I had to explain how the hell that could happen. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers,
Wolfgang

My 86 year old grandma and my dad (who I hardly ever talk to) were in my grandmas basement trying to turn on the fan on her oil furnace.
they were usung a flashlight that had a big 6 volt battery hanging off the bottom of the flashlight.
It did not seem very bright so I pulled my car keys out of my pocket and turned on my my micro illuminator.
they were very suprized that it was so small and bright.
I can not beleve that it runs for 2 hours to 50% output.

the pm6 sounds like it is bright and throws good.
I may have to buy one.

The other good thing about the M6 is that it's priced at a level that doesn't scare non flashaholics too much. At $10-12 more than they're some are paying for a Mag, it's a light that just about anyone can afford (once you point them to batterystation for 123's, hehe).

am i reading this right a pm6 is brighter then a 5 d mag light? that seems rather inposable so did i read it wrong?

I've noticed some places only sell up to 5D. And I don't know about people buying Mags these days, but the majority of D-cell police lights I've found from the '70s are 5-cell. Something about weight requirements.

Raggie, 2x123 xenon flashlights are about equal to 5D Mags in decent shape. I'd guess this guy's batteries were running low. My 6D Mag is brighter than my Scorpion.

I have a "simulated 6D Mag" with my 3x123 2C Mag conversion and it's easily brigher than my PM6 - but it's also running a KPR112, which I think is cheating a little.

The other night I ended up watching some police officers search for a group of vandals inside an abandoned office building. The officers outside the building were shining their lights through the windows. All of them had Mag Chargers. I couldn't resist and whipped my Peli M6 out and... obviously outshined every single one of them! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif The M6 looked almost like a spotlight compared to their Mags. It was neat to see the look on their faces... they would sort of give me this sideway look and turn their light off. Then we'd get to talk about lights...

PS. I know the MagCharger is not exactly a 5D, but 5 1/2D. Couldn't resist to share /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif For reference, the building was about 8 floors tall and I could illuminate the edge of the roof clearly.

Last Christmas my cousin got a mag for christmas.. I believe it was a 3-D cell. He was waving it around in enjoyment. Unfortunately, my flashoholism was in it's infancy and the only light I had bought at that point was an Arc LS unmodded with a 2 AA pack, and it didn't come close in brightness. Heck, I didn't even give a second thought about purchasing an incandescent light until last week for some reason, when I suddenly spent the whole day Monday researching which one to buy. Next christmas when I make the trip over there, I hope he has his mag out showing it off. I'll make sure to take a Streamlight TL-3 with me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif

Greenled, pick up a few WA01160 bulbs for those officers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
