I have recently been contracted by a friend to make a make a mag-lite 2c luxeon mod. 2'c' cells doesn't supply enough voltage to drive the luxeon, and i am also concerned about heatsinking.

has anyone completed a maglite 2c mod? if so, please provide a little help. Thank You.

2 C = 4 CR123A cells?

cr123a? i don't really know anything about these. also, i am concerned about heatsinking. i have no heatsink to use, and no real way to make one. i used the 1.36" heatsinks from lambda to make my 3d mag, but these will not fit into the 2c.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Just break out Mr. Hacksaw & Mr. File and you'll be making heatsinks in no time... Not to worry, 2C cells won't drive a Luxeon hard enough to make much in the way of heat (or light either).

yea, the light output is one of my main concerns, if i'm going to spend $20 to modify a light, then i would like it to have a decent output.

Then you'll need to cough up cash for a step-up circuit or (my favorite approach) start with a 3 cell light and direct drive it. You could also build the mod on a 2D converted into a 3C.

Starting with the appropriate mod base will save money and effort in the long run.

yea, i guess the mod options are really low on this unit. i will probably have to give it back the the poor soul unhurt...err...unchanged.

You can always try to get/build a step-up circuit. If you ask Dat2zip, he may have a BadBoy 400 or 500 bare board (no emmitter) laying around- or a bare Lambda Ill-pill, if he's still got any around without an emmitter.

You could probably fit 3 A cells in it. At least I think they are A cells. They are as long as AAA but as thick as CR 123. I put 3 of them in my 2C Amberlite and use 2.4 volt krypton in it since I don't have any luxeon star. Those cells (nicd) are from really old mobile phone and has 1200 mAh capacity.

A cells are as long as C cells. 3 @ 4/5 A cells wil fit. Snakebite sells 6.0V 5-packs of these cells.

One additional thought is that you could always mod it using a Red/Orange Luxeon.. Those suckers are BRIGHT on just 2 cells.

oh, i hadn't thought of the red/orange. i heard that future electronics sells them at 7.70 dollars, but their site appears to be down

do the r/o work with 4.5v? as in a 3D? or is that too much?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Waay too much-without a resistor or a circuit.
That color LED is much happier with voltages of 2.1V-3V.

good, 3v it is, and please ignore my above post about future-electronics being down, as it appears to be up now. and thank you everyone for the excellent idea.
