Aren't D battery flashlights brighter than the C's?

I would like to do one of these modifications to one my Mags that you guys are talking about.

According to Maglites website, the D's offer more throw, but equal total lumens to the C's. (you can look at the bulb section for lumen and candlepower ratings).

The main advantage of the D's is longer runtime.

The light that is next to my bed for "bumps in the night" is a three C cell Mag. I'm not sure why since I have SF, PM6, and SL lights. It is just the light that I keep there.

In spite of all the criticism, I still think that Mags are the best buy on the market for the average person.

So you are not alone, Mag_Lite, in your like of Mags. For most people, not addicted to flashlights, a 2 or 3 cell C or D Mag plus a 2AA Mini-mag will take care of everything they need flashlights for. They don't cost much either.

Note that these pics are not manipulatet. They are from www.tactical-gear.de, a webpage made by police officers to teach students.

In the middle you can see the SureFire lamp from the pic:

But I think, MagLite is ok for civilian use.

The mag lite is at it's most de-focused setting. You can focus the mag lite to give a much better beam.

But i think its not really important. Even the focused beam is so small, you wont see the gun... Important is: You cant see all important details with MagLites... like I said, its ok for civilians but deadly for police offcers or soldiers!

I have to wonder what the distance was. My own mags would show everything at normal room distances.

I won't question that the SF is better and brighter, but I think the photo was staged to convince the LE to buy Surefires. Though I read how the circles in the Mag causes one to not see sufficiently to see weapons, I think that is hokey in 99% of the cases. The D Mag still seems to be a favorite of the Police.

I find it hard to use a maglite. I think the artifacts in the beam are enought for you to loose detail and not see some things.

The distance was 3-4 merters. I know it becuz i took the pics. Ill post a Pic with a focused beam in a few minutes...

It is a 3C MagLite, and it much brighter than the D MagLites with scratched lenses, that the other officers use.

Here it comes:

I use my Mag Lites outside in the mountains where it is pitchblack and I can see a heck of a lot more than what you posted their even with the light focused to the widest possible beam.

Then multiply that by 3-4 times, and you will have what you would see with a Surefire.

How much $$$ is the SureFire Z3?

Like $100 maybe?

Somewhere in that range.

But you can get a 6P for around $55 (I got a great deal and got 2 6Ps for $39 each on sale). And you can get a G2 model plastic body Surefire for around $30. Entry level Surefires (the G2 model) are only $10-$15 more than D-Cell Maglites, yet offer several times the performance!

Yeah right... MagLites are ok for civil use.
But for some jobs there is nothing better than SureFire.

I also dont like the LED stuff of Surefire (I think i have a problem now hehe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/poke2.gif). The SureFire LEDs are fine, but still not bright enough for me. A P91 or MN11 is much brighter and will be much brighter for the next years.
And nobody cares about batteries!

But I also own a L1 and A2 (its my back up flashlight).
And I think Ill buy the U2 and a M6 ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif
And Ill buy the X200 when my department get new firearms. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif

And note that I almost shoot an idiot becuz he was aiming with a cup of coffee at me! He shlould thank god that I used the Z3 and not my MagLite... maybe he would be dead now.
