Hi, pretty new to modding. My first project was the Der Wichtel 3xp7 mag mod, this went well and now im looking for a mag thrower. Want to do as cheap as possible as im a bit strapped at the moment. Ive read mag aspheric threads until my eyes bled...

I saw that the KD q5/aspheric was a popular choice but they're permanently out of stock so would these bits be ok?

H22A DHS Heatsink - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=203235

KD Exotic 52mm Aspherical lens for mag - http://kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=1753

Cree Q5 bare emitter, KD, they dont seem to have the R2, anywhere i can get the R2 to the UK at reasonable cost? - http://kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=1776

DX Driver - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26111

Does this lot look ok? Not sure which mag to put it in, 2 or 3D would be best. Any suggestions for battery choices for this for 2-3D?

Many thanks for any help.
Craig.

That's pretty much what I did except...
1. I used TWO of these drivers paralleled for 1.6A http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3256

2. I used Q5's on 14mm board's and ground the heat sink pedestal flat.

I gave one to my brother running 4 cells and I kept the other running 6AA's.
Both are doing great and are plenty bright.

1. You can use a 3D with a 1" schedule 40 pvc conduit as a sleeve and run 4C cells with minor tail spring adjustment.

2. A 2D light with a 6AA series adapter.

Thanks. I like the idea of 2D with 6xAA adaptor, do you know where i can get one? Although i guess better runtimes with the c's hmm.

Mounting a bare emitter on the heatsink is easier than your method, was there a reason you did it like this or did you just have star mounted emitters to hand?

Is the q5 ok with the 1.6A? i think the cool ones are rated 1A and the warmer ones only 700ma.. i probably wont use the thing much to be honest, just want a half decent thrower in the collection.

I think ill stick with the 1.2A driver i mentioned as it will be less hassle to wire etc. Does anyone know if I would have to make the switch momentary with this driver please?

Cheers for the help, looking forward to my next project. lovecpf
*edit* wow those 6xaa serial adaptors are quite pricey... Would 2x18650 be ok? Dont mind a bit of tailspring modding.
