Hey all,

I have a new style Mag 2AA LED that stopped working. I tried the tips on the mag website with no luck, so I called the 1-800 number listed on the website. The lady I talked to said they would take a look at the light..........if I shipped it to California! I explained to her that postage for shipping the light would be equivalent to me going to Canadian Tire and purchasing a replacement light. I asked if there was anyone in Canada that would repair this product, to which she replied "not for that size light".

Economically, this light is not worth me getting repaired, I might as well invest in a new light. A "lifetime warranty", or whatever BS they call it is useless if it is not feasible for your customers to use.

Anyway, looking for a new light. Any suggestions? Please don't say Mag, as I'm a touch sore on that company right now........fool me once.......

I'd take out the batteries and put it in the smallest package/envelope possible and ship it the cheapest way that Canada Post has. The LED models are still worth around $25CDN.

Small Packet Air will cost you about $6.70. Surface will be even cheaper. I think it's worth the effort.

And you are likely to get a newer model in return...

well... when i was in the UK, I send my 6 years old maglite 2AA incandescent to the mag distributor in the UK. They replaced the o-ring grease them, I even gave them an unopened spare bulb so that they could use it to test the torch.

they were really generous. They did not use my new unopened spare bulb. they replaced the reflector, the lens, the black colour thingy that holds the bi-pin bulb, and they gave me 2 new bulbs one in the tail ,one in the head.

so perhaps, u could locate your mag dealer in canada? well, for UK residents, any warranty claims, we go thru the distributor here. pelican, surefire, maglite, staedtler, faber castell. etc etc...even stationeries too.. hence we save shipping cost...

What qualifies as Small Packet?
I tried to send 2 PR2 bulbs within Canada. They were in a CR12A case to protect them from being crushed, then inside a 6x9 padded envelope. The post office wanted $7.27.

What do you mean by stop working? Maybe we can troubleshoot it for you without having to mail anything anywhere. ;)

It actually costs MORE to ship items within Canada in many cases. Ottawa to California costs me $6.70 Small Packet Air. Shipping a similar item to BC cost me over $10!

I have found in the past with other non-flashlight products that the cost of shipping the item for warranty work often exceeds or comes close to the cost of simply buying a brand new version. Some companies that I've dealt with in the past even demanded that customers pre-pay for the return shipping too on all warranty claims. I'm not surprised in the least at what you discovered.

Yes, you pay shipping to them and they'll pay shipping to you. That message is to ward off people who send it COD.

Canada Post rates went up recently, but still not bad.

I sent a Small Packet Air envelope with 16 AAA batteries to the states last week, and it cost $6.94 for a 215 gram envelope with the batteries in it.

When I sent a pair of Spiderfire P60 hosts to California, it was under $10.

Pack up the light and send it off to them. It will cost you more to go to Canadian Tire, MEC, etc to buy another.

If you have bought it at a store you should claim your garuantee there. They should replace or repair it for you, period.
