Maglite?

Possibly, but I think their intended market is Joe Everyman who is not going to spend the kind of money CR123s generally cost in the hardware or supermarket.

Not likely unless Maglite decides to start making CR123a's and that would open up a whole can of worms. Maglite is a good manufacturer, but they are more based on quantity so they probably wouldn't be made to the same standards as Surefire batteries. I think most of us still consider CR123a's dangerous, especially when used by people not familiar with the quirks of using lithium primaries, and occasionally they still go bang even when people do everything right.

I still remember mixing old and new batteries back when I first got into Surefires many years ago. In those blissfully ignorant early days, it's probably a miracle nothing happened.

I have a 2C Mag with 3x123's,but nothing in it to power up:(. Looking for a kick a$$ drop-in.
To me the 2C is the perfect all-around size. Home or truck or even on a belt or in hand. It just needs a more power and a low mode.

Houtex,

I really agree with you about the 2C size.

After getting inspiration of this Youtube-clip I ordered a Malkoff 4-6C dropin. Not too expensive, in my opinion. I still waiting for a 2C.

You can power a 4-6C drop-in in a 2C Mag as long as you power it with 6-9 volts. Two or three 123s would do it, or a pair of Li-Ion/LiMN C cells.

Malkoff's drop-ins are the highest-rated models, but if you're looking for something a little less expensive there's the TerraLUX drop-in (http://www.batteryjunction.com/tle-6k2.html) which simply replaces the bulb in your Mag (keeping the focus ability) for 140 regulated lumens.

In the youtube-clip I linked to the guy used the Maglite incan bulb for 6D.
I think that the Malkoff-dropin will be not much brighter, but the runtime will be much longer. 3 CR123 cells to incan bulb would provide very short runtime; half an hour or less, the Malkoff maybe around two hours. Is that a fair guesstimate?

Regards, Patric

A Malkoff will be notably brighter than a krypton bulb; the xenon bulb would be as bright as the Malkoff *for only the first few minutes of runtime* and would then quickly decline, with the average overall output being only about half the Malkoff's.

I'm not sure on the numbers for an incan/123 setup, but you are correct that it would not be very long.

StarHalo,

That sounds promising for the Malkoff dropin I have.
Yes, i understood that 3 CR123 will provide very short runtime with an incan bulb when consider that it's usually suited for 6 D-cells.

Joe Millionaire wouldn't pay hardware/supermarket prices for CR123s; only the government would pay that much.
