Magnetic dimming LEDs

Okay, found some hall effect sensors that consume hardly any power at all. Here is a video of a test:

Next step it to rig it into a home built synchronous switcher sandwich pushing 1A to the Luxeon and deck out a 2AA MagLite with a nice ring with a small magnet inside.

Were you just using the Hall effect sensor to drive the LED linearly (i.e. just using it to adjust the bias on a drive transistor), or was that running a digital switcher?
