Any CPFer going to the Maker Faire 2007 in San Mateo, CA this weekend.
I heard last year's event was a blast, and hopefully this year is gonna get even better (according to my techie coworker).

Our family is going up there on Sat @ ~10-11AM. Would you like to join?

I would love to join you, but I am going on Sunday!
I have a solar oven workshop in Palo Alto on Saturday and a birthday party.

I am going on sunday though.

Last year was awsome.

Jealous over here, only read about it. have fun and take some pics if easy.

Solar oven. Check with PaulB. He's been cooking eggs & such solarly for a while.

pumaman: it's just one of the perks of the ludicrous rent price here.

Holly MACRO. This is "THE FAIR" for any geek/techie/DYI guy. I was able to go for ~5 hrs but didn't even scratch the surface of the different things out there.

I picked up a pocket ref ISBN 1-885071-33-7, really good for $13
So may toys so little time. I'll definitely make it again next year for a 2 days pass.

Guys in Austin TX, I heard they'll try to have one down there next year too.

Now that one I might be able to make. Please post any date info, etc. as it becomes available.

If they have it again, and you make anything, you should try to go! The "maker Fair" is a wonderful event. I bet we could recruit a ton of people or show people some of the awesome manufactured stuff.

If you live within 200 miles and you read this forum, you probably owe it to your self to "make", pun intended, this even every couple of years. The event is kid friendly, but there is stuff present that can be dangerous in some areas, so you must be aware. But what fun would it be if you could not use a soldering iron on premises.

But it is fun for the GEEK family.

There were 2 electric cars present.
There was fire exhibits.
The wife had the back of her cell phone etched with a laser engraver tool.
They were showing people how to use a plasma cutter.
They had a 3D plastic sculpting machine.
They were showing how to use a lathe.
There was tons of crafts for kids.
There was sewing demonstrations and crafting ideas for people not dealing the metal. Mostly women.
There was software and hardware controllers.

My head is still spinning from all the stuff seen. I now need a month off to try and do all this stuff.

I made this from instructions by a guy who was going to be at the Makers Faire, making his "Blinky Bugs"

Pretty cool idea - it's a super-simple, no soldering required, motion-activated bug - when wind/vibration moves the antennae, they bump against the lead of the LED, and it lights up - simple, but fun!
