Sorry I dont have any pics of this, but here is a description. take a dorcy AAA that has been modded with a 1W or 3W emitter, get a hold of a couple 1/3 AAA batteries.

(sample packs about 3/4 of the way down the page)
put two of the 1/3 AAA Ni-Cad or Ni-MH batteris in it and and 'spacer' battery. The emitter will run at about spec current (unable to check with a meter). WOW, i was impressed. Just thought I would pass this on.

Very good info! I definitely need to try this.

I have been using a Ray-o-vac 4x 'smart' charger. wal mart deal. presentally I have a shaft made of tin foil I use to fill the gap. I am working on a wooden dowel, cut up to hold the AAA's and fit in the AA spot. I am using 110mAh Ni-Cads from those small RC cars, but I have some 210mAh Ni-MH's on order. the Ni-Cads had a bad cycle life in the cars, and only put out full power for about 10mins with 1Hr till very dim. I should be able to get 20mins+ or so with the new 210's. Also looking to replace the inverter board with a metal slug (same shape of the inverter board) with an emitter on top, and run it with 3x 1/3AAA DD. Should get 30mins+ (if I can get enough heat off it).

Sory it has been awhile, just started a new job and I have very limited internet access. Well I got the 1/3AAA, and math must have changed over the years... new math... 3x 1/4AAA = 1xAAA. AND 2x 1/3AAA = 1xAAA. that being said, two of the 1/3AAA are barely shorter than the stock AAA. pull the springs a bit and the two batteries fit with no play. Runtime is pretty good, at least 40min. I filled the upper part of the tube where the convertor sits to sink the extra heat.
