malfunctioning aleph A19 xr-e?

I have an aleph A19 xr-e that does not seem to be working right. It used to, but now, to get it to work, I must tighten the head very very tightly. I have taken the LE off and pressed it against the battery tube and battery, and it seems to work okay like that. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

It sounds like your battery tube is not bottoming out firmly on the LE. You can try a loop of conductive wire sandwiched between the battery tube lip and the back contact face of the can and see if that improves the situation. If it does, you will need to bridge this gap by some means.
