I have a Malkoff High/Low switch installed in an MD2. It worked fine at first. Now I can only use the high mode. I tried fresh batteries but no luck. Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks all.

Mine came loose after a few motnhs of heavy use. Have you tried tightening it down? It would be nice if such an easy fix would do it!!

* Is the small pin in the ring going in and out with a springy action?

I had one of the very first hi-low rings and the pin got stuck in after about a year. So no more low mode. :( Gene fixed me up real quick with a phone call. His # is still in my phone if you need it.

+1 Me too.

Easiest darn warranty process ever!

Mine is one of the later bent wire ones that flatten out and then ony work on high. The trick is to just lift the end of the wire up and it will start working again. If you screw the light together to hard, it flattens out the wire. Kind of a pain and almost more trouble than it's worth.

yeah, that bent wire worked for me about 2-3 cycles. i bent it back and it broke! a single email was all it took to get a replacement on the way. the new one is the plunger style that has none of the bent wire issues

I am also rocking the hi/lo switch with the wire on my MD2. I saw that it is also scratching into the MD2 body. When I first noticed this I also thought about how this copper wire was going to evenually wear thin. I have only used the Hi/Lo feature a couple of times since my MD2 is a shelf queen. I could imagine every day use would be an issue. Can someone post a photo of the plunger style switch? Is it newer than the wire switch?

Yes, it's the newer style. You can see it on his website: http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/highlow-bezel-switch-for-md2-p-58.html

Kinda hard to see, but the "switch" is a small wire plunger in the circle in the middle on the ring, and is about the diameter of a pin.

While I understand wanting to preserve something as nice as the MD2, it's a shame not to use it more often. It's a hard-use item, why not enjoy it? They'll make more... :)

dss 777. I might have the new one since i just got it maybe like two months ago around when the M61 breifly came back into stock. I'll will take your advise and give my (2) RCR123 6P with no low mode a break and bring out the MD2 with the hi/lo switch and longer running time 18650.

I have found that the 'small wire plunger' style very reliable, although I did notice some wear of the pin itself - not sure how much had worn down but it was noticable with moderate use only.

James....
