I know, just looking for the head it was originally designed for. I have multiples in the 22.3 format and wanna see what the other was like.the 22.3 will give you the most out of that M91.
...argument could be made the 16 would survive longer in extreme conditions
I beg to differ. Straight from the website. Its also obvious when you look at the amount of exposed edge of the reflector…It was designed for the 22 mm head. If you order the whole unit that's what it come with. A lot if not most of the light comes from the outside of the reflector. You can test this out and put a dime or something smaller in diameter right in the middle of the lens and turn it on. The beam pattern doesn't really change.
That's the thing, you don't loose any spill. See how the reflector was designed for the smaller lens/head.Lose spill with the 16, that's the difference. I prefer the 22. I guess a argument could be made the 16 would survive longer in extreme conditions, but idk.
Thanks Owen. I will take this. I responded to your pm.The M91B was designed to work with the 16.5mm head*, and that's what it came with, if purchased together, before they standardized on the 22.3mm one.
That's why it's recessed for a 16.5mm lens, just like the M31 and M61.
Differences:
-With the 22.3m lens/head the OAL of the light will be longer by the thickness of the lens, as the front of the dropin butts up against the lens rather than containing it.
-The 22.3mm head will allow slightly wider spill(as will a SF host)
-The 16.5mm head and lens are in turn slightly more robust due to increased coverage and a smaller diameter lens.
I don't personally find a practical difference between the two.
*Technically, starting with the M30 and M60 dropins, they were all *designed* to be SF-compatible until the T models, which required a MD head, but larger opening due to the optic.
All that said, if you want a user 16.5mm head for about half of retail, hit me up. I have one that was labeled as a "blem" due to a couple of pre-ano dings.
I'll PM you with pics...
I don't think I have ever heard the phrase "chokes the cone" 😂Definitely lose spill due to the edge of the 16 bezel, the 22 bezel allows more of the "cone" to shine. The 16 chokes the cone.
