Malkoff's newest SF drop in 200+ lumens!

Gene is known for being conservative on specs for his drop-ins. I have one of these new drop-ins. My educated guess is that mathmatically it is 200+ lumens at the emitter, so something less than that out the front. But this thing is friggin' bright and it throws!

It doesn't out-throw my Ultra Stinger, but that thing has a turbohead. The drop-in really comes into it own between 30 - 60 yards.

If you can score one, you will not be disappointed.

What was the lumens of the previous Malkoff SF model ?

In the email that Gene sent announcing these new drop-ins, he mentioned an 8-degree collimator, which is an optic as far as I know.

Yes, that is an optic. The new drop-in is brighter than the "old" one - and not just per specs; you can see the difference with your eyes. The beam shape is really pleasing. The hot spot is wider than the previous drop-in and the side spill is extremely useful all the way out to the edge. This is one of those units that will light a good-sized room without the need to pan around to see what's what. Amazing what can be done with 200+ lumens, huh. Not to crack on Surefire, but this drop-in is what the SF LEDs should have been. YMMV. :D

Yes Malkoff's products are outstanding! I got one of his original drop-ins and its performance was excellent - and now he has upgraded the production etc so his work has improved even further.

Now to get my hands on a Malkoff SF drop-in....

What current is running to the emitter from the converter? I thought the M60 Q2 ran 1A to the LED, but the new one seems to run only 700mA. As Gene advertises, "The current draw is only 700ma at 6 volts."

Did something change? Am I missing something?

Will it fit in a C2 Centurion? If not, how about the G2 combatlight or G2Z combatlights?

I'm running one of his old M60 Q2's in a C2 Centurion, not a problem with that fit, I do not know if the new one is the same size, but the old one will fit in a C2.

I'm pretty sure it will fit into all the lights you mentioned from Surefire.

The new brass model with a Cree Q4 is running 800ma to the emitter with a 700ma draw at 6v. I dropped it from the 1A of the Q2 model because of the Q4's higher Vf. I wanted a solid 2hrs runtime at the rated output. That 200ma difference makes a very big difference in runtime and a barely noticable difference in light out the front. The spec is for lumens at the led.

Thanks, Gene

I got one of his early Q2's i believe and had a slight head gap on my C2 and C3 this was frustrating because the allowed the clip to be loose. I slightly beveled the lower edge of the "pill" and now everything fits correctly. I contacted Gene and he said this was only on earlier models. I just got the BOG Q5 drop in and it also had a gap on my lights grrrrrr. Fixed it the same way.

Thats weird on the BOG Q5, mine which I just got the other day does not have a gap on a 6P or a C2...........

My Malkoff drop-in's leave a very small gap, it does not affect anything at all when I use a speed holster, I leave the light in there bezel down and it has never came loose, not once.

But yeah the BOG fits perfect in my light and it is the new Q5.
