I have read favorable reviews of the Mammut X-Zoom headlamp but nothing about lumen output. How will the Mammut compare to the Princeton Tec Apex 130 lumen headlamp in terms of lumen output and spot reach? Anyone out there compared the two?

If you turn the Mammut Zoom to full spot it will reach (throw) further than the Apex. I can't be sure which has higher overall output. If you read down you'll see a small thread on the Mammut. There are apex threads all over too. As for which one, well I'm not a fan of the way Mammut went about building their light, I like the Apex better. But optics wise the Mammut looks like it is decent.

I am very intrigued by what I have read about the Mammut regarding weight and runtime, and hope that it can replace my Apex on my next backpack elk hunting expedition!

I see that probably I should translate and post here my review of X-zoom.

According to the lumen output, Mammut declares "c.a. 80 lumens".
But I would not judge this headlamp only by the lumens, because half of the job is done by optics.
It easily reaches 120m declared by producer.
I compared it with Myo XP (modded with SSC P4 U-bin) and Mammut have further throw.
Surprisingly, when I measured (unprofessionally) the currents, Readings for X-zoom were c.a. half of these measured for Myo - which means that Mammut consumes less energy achieving better output.

The cost is that the X-zoom's beam is more narrow than Myo (I don't know how about APEX). This is not a problem when you use throw mode (you can easily make it more wide due to zoomable optics, and in fact the spot is still quite big on a longer distance), but if you need "camping" type of light, you will probably appreciate more wide beam.

IMO for evening/night walking it is one of the best choices.
But I also bought light with more flood for camping purposes.
