In short order I killed a 4.8V Krypton and a 5.2V Halogen bulb in my 5D Excailbre Streamlight.

I ended up putting a 6V K12 in it.

It focuses tighter with K12, but of course isn't as bright. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

This blows a theory of mine all to He77! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I figured anything more than 4cells driving a one cell less bulb was pretty safe. By my thinking 5 against 4 was better than 4 against 3 (which I've had good luck with). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sssh.gif
Maybe because it's usually C cells rather than the Ds this time???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

May have to rethink this some more! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

5 d-cells = 7.5 volts

4 d-cells = 6.0 volts

Your experience dosn't blow your theory.
It blows your math & your bulbs.

Actually it's deeper than that. Some bulbs are closer to the edge to begin with. Sorry about the double post. I hit the wrong key.

Keep in mind that D's can deliver more current (amps) and maintain a more stable voltage than C's can. (Duh-bigger container=more juice)(presuming you are using alkalines??) I see no mention of the type of cells other than C's & D's.

I use a 4.5 volt halogen in a 4 cell Maglight, and it out throws anything else I've got. I don't look for this to last very long. I have run 3.2 volt bulbs in a 3 cell, and they pop almost instantly.

All Alkaline Batteries for now.

Some Energizer, mostly Rayovac.

I run 3cell M*g Whitestars with 4C in several lights. Above 2cell, every D light I have is loaded with one extra C (except the Excalibre).

In my other lights, I have much better bulb life luck.
