What is you reason for having one if you dont have a job that requires you to have a breifcase or messenger bag.Do you have your manpurse with you all the time? What do your spouse\friends say about it?

I carry mine around all the time. I find it much more convienient than pockets. In it I carry:

Digital Camera
iPod w/ headphones
Surefire L4
Arc4+
I have an Arc AAA clipped to the outside on a gear keeper
(never can have too many flashlights right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
4 AAA cells...either for the camera or the Arc AAA...
2 123s...for the other lights
Kleenex
Left handed Sebbie.
My Wallet
Pen, Pencil, Eraser
Small first aid kit (bandaids, anticeptic q-tips, bugbite relief q-tips).
Cell phone w/ hands free kit.
Weatherproof Lighter
Gum
Mints

My friends and my spouse thought it was funny at first...until they figured out that anytime they need something I've got it.

I pretty much don't care what people think too much anyway. For whatever stupid reason society has dictated that men shouldn't be able to carry the things they need/want with them. Stupid IMHO. I think it would look much more stupid for my pants to be falling down trying to hold all that stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, I think depending on your activity everyday it is comfortable or not what kind of transportation method to choose for all your stuff, I don't see me carrying any bag because I work all day jumping in or getting out of my van, so, finally I take everything in my pockets or non sleeve working jacket.I know friends of mine living in big towns, getting buses or the subway and they take a bag or backpack. It is a very practical way for your things, but not for me.(I know, all my jean's pockets are with holes.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you commute or depend on public transportation, then you have to carry it with you or do without.

Other than a few overzealous retail security employees, no one has ever said anything or given my bag a second glance.

The only reason woman have purses is they refuse to wear proper coats (or pants) with proper pockets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Now that you mention security persons: went to the Tower of London once and all the little old ladies had their handbags searched, while I could walk in with more gear in my pockets than could fit in any handbag.

I have fallen into the trap of continuously cramming more and more stuff into my FatBoy, and find it gets left in the truck most of the time, which kind of defeats the purpose, IMO.
I'm downsizing the amount of junk I put in there, and am going to try actually carrying it for awhile.

Its a ton easier to carry it all in the fatboy than it is to try and find and move from jacket to jacket etc... especially easy for travel.

Never had one comment or question on it - except about how handy it is.

I don't carry my Fatboy at work. The only time I carry it is outside work, and most often when it's hot enough out that I can't wear my ScotteVest with a zillion pockets. If I can wear a jacket or carry a laptop case, I can put my junk in there, no reason to prance around like a European dandy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks everyone! These are the kind of comments I was looking for.

I carry a modified expedition, and I tell my wife it is a "gear" bag. She too calls it a man purse. I carry lights, batteries, first aid kit, chemical lights, monocular, extra bulbs, pens, am/fm/sw radio, anti bacterial hand wash, sewing kit, sdu light, and all sorts of things I would want to have available if I should ever be in a situation such as the twin tower tragedy.

I mean after all I would rather have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

You can see the entire package of what I carry on the other "FatBoy" thread. I too struggle a bit between what CAN fit in the FatBoy, and what I'm actually willing to carry on a regular basis. I take my bag most places, though I occasionally just grab my wallet and cell phone out of it if I'm just ducking into a store for a minute.

Nobody's ever had a thing to say about it, other than 'cool bag'. Of course, I work on a university campus, so carrying something actually makes me stand out less than being the only one in sight without anything.

I think a big part of success is choosing something which looks as little like a 'European Carryall' as humanly possible. The Maxpedition line is more than sufficiently 'manly' for my purposes, and so darn useful I don't think I could give it up.

My favorite moment was on a weekend trip with friends, and my Fatboy produced urgently needed antihistamines, antacids, bandanna for clean-up, multi-tool, etc., and one of the women immediately dubbed it 'the Bag of Wonders'...

I'm still grinning.

Jumpmaster,

How much does the LBE weigh before you start adding your kit? WOW, I do not miss those days at all. The only guy I ever felt for was the squad machinegunner for some unknown reason he was always the smallest guy on the patrol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif
