No, it's very thin adhesive paper label, or you can do it in a clear one as well.

ok when I think Dymo, I think those circular clicky wheels and that hard plastic tape where you had to manually compress the letters into the tape.

No, they may be called something else in the USA but out here in Oz they are still called Dymo (Letra Tag XR), it's a battery hand held unit with an lcd readout. The old style plastic tape you are thinking about would be way too thick.
