Here are test results for a max1797 chip on a SurfBoard SIP adapter with a dimmer driving a 1W LS.

It eliminates the need to etch a surface mount circuit board. It'll fit inside a 2D flashlight using a 2AA battery holder and some cotton balls for packing material. Component arrangenent and a few other notes are at the address below in my signature block.

When I did the temperature measurements the led was getting about 310 mA and the chip was at 54 deg. C which is 129 F.

The .885 efficiency of the circuit looks about like it says on the chip data sheet.

What do people think about the temperature? Is it right where it should be or is it high?

I guess it's okay since the chip ambient temperature range goes up to 85 C and the max junction temperature is 150 C.

I was going to leave the light on for a run time test, but I don't want to hurt it. Do you think it's safe to leave it on overnight?
