Max Voltage on KL5 and KL6

Will any members please advice me. what is the Max voltage that the Kl5 and KL6 can accept?

As for the KL6 apart from the M3 n M4 which other combination can I have for it?
Can I use Kl6 on M6?

If the KL6 can accept 4x123 batt = 12 Volts.(on a M4 body)
Can I use 3xR123 at around 12.6 to 13 volts? Would I damage the KL6 with 3xR123? (on M3 body)

Please advice

My mistake the posting is about KL5 and KL6 ( I type wrongly)
 
KL4 and KL5 does NOT accept 4x123. You will definitely fry the converter and emitter. Max. voltage on a KL4 or KL5 is 6 volts.

But Surefire Website states that the KL5 can be use on 9P and C3 (which uses 3 x123 batt)

So can you confirm that I can't use 9 volts on the KL5?
 
It's my understanding that Jan is correct the KL5 is for 6 volts not for 9 volt. I know the Surefire site shows this, but I think it is a typo.

The KL6 is for 9 to 12 volts. I don't know if the KL6 can take 3xR123s. I use two Pila 150S batteries in my L6 and it works great.

The KL6 runs great on a M6. The M6 is 9 volts.
 
The KL5 is designed for two-SF123A batteries.
Do not power the KL5 using three-SF123A batteries.

The KL6 is designed for three-SF123A batteries.
It can accept four-SF123As (M4 body for example).
It an also be used on the M6 body.

I was told that the KL5 was not designed for three SF123As by PK who basically said I could try it at my own risk.

Of course, SureFire change stuff all the time...

KL5 on 9 volts ...same ok Surefire gave me.Works without any problems.Although Surefire is a little inconsistant these days.
 
The KL5 is a boost circuit. You can get away with 3x123 because of the internal resistance of the batteries and the overhead of the converter but you are over driving the LED. Sure, there are many here who DD a 5W on 3x123 so it is doable. Will you get a good long life from the LED in doing so? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

I recall asking PK if the KL6 buck circuit was OK on automotive 12V systems (13.6 -14 V) and as I recall his answer was no. Again, you are OK with 4x123 on the KL6 because you aren't really at 12V under load.

I suspect that if you put the KL5 on a true output of 9V or the KL6 on a 12V power supply that you will not get good long service from them.
 
So does that means that 3 x 123 batt is not even 9Volts?

I don't quite understand cos if a 123 batt on a voltmeter indicate 3volts and 3x123 also indicate 9volts on the meter.

I'm actually planning to use the KL6 on a M3 with 3 x R123 non-protected batt and each rechargable is around 4.2-4.4 volts. so 3xR123 will be around 12.6volts

Try measuring the voltage of the battery when you have a 1 amp+ load on it. I think you will find that it is now well bellow 3V. I don't recall what the upper limit is on the KL6. Sorry.
