I'm looking into purchasing either the standard Maxa Beam G3 7.5 million candlepower system or the enhanced output 12 million candlepower system.

I figure this is another area similar to the PH40 vs PH50 debate where you just aren't going to notice a difference between the two unless they are side by side.

At the current time I'm looking to purchase only the light and the lithium ion battery but my issue is the value of that additional 4,500,000 candlepower. The way I see it is the base price is $1700 so I have to consider that the baseline cost regardless of my decision. The question is are 4.5 million extra candlepower worth $400 extra bucks? I know we are talking about lights in a league of their own but that still seems like a heck of alot of candlepower.

Anyone out there with experience in the Maxa Beam or any other high powered searchlight have input?

I saw the 7.5 million model and the 12 million model in "action" so to speak down at PeakBeam last year. The area where I observed them was the testing area and, I did not see the performance at a distance so....I did notice a difference and I would wager that difference might be more pronounced at distance. The additonal output (and $ outLAY) is due to an enhanced performance reflector coating (Aluminum as I recall) as well as hand-picked bulbs. Is it worth it? Depends on your use. In this stratospheric mega-buck relm, a few hundred just might not bother your wallet. I bought the 7.5 if that is of any interest to you.

Thanks both Pat and Karl. I just read your thread in the Marketplace and it was extremely useful. Based on the way they get the extra 4.5 million candlepower I don't think it will be worth it for me to do the upgrade. A hand picked bulb doesn't sound too convincing or technical for the increased output and the less durable reflector is defiantly not an option given this lights future use in law enforcement.

Anyone by chance have any way of getting ahold of Nitro? I see he hasn't posted in a few months but at that time he was trying to get rid of his system for a decent price. And Lousy I've only purchased the Wolf Eyes MCE Explorer, Titanium L50, and potentially a Maxabeam in the past three weeks...... I'm not THAT bad. ;)

Well just placed the order for a brand spankin new MaxaBeam. Will wait till next month to order the second generation lithium ion battery given the price tag. I think I'll make a desktop background with a picture of my PH50, L50, and MaxaBeam :)

Josh, I see you are the light guru and I have some questions that you can possibly answer for me about a Maxa Beam I have. Can you contact me off line at [email protected] when you have the time. Thanks Scott

Thanks LousyGreat, as that's my sales thread, but I think Josh already owns a Maxabeam. :)

Appreciate it LG but Paul is right it's sitting in the closet right now waiting for me to decide to pull the trigger on that $500+ lithium Ion battery.
