Flashlight Enthusiast
I was just reading a newsletter I get from PC Magazine...and what do you know? The original article is here...

This is the part about the Maxablaster....
"The invention of the Maxablaster is as close as humans have come to inventing a lightsaber. We're not kidding. A Dutch optics engineer has invented a 38-million-candlepower flashlight with the power to burn skin. It's not a solid beam (so we can't hail the Star Wars gods as having finally arrived), but it'll definitely do some damage. The commercial flashlight shell was gutted and a mercury arc bulb installed, which produces a brighter, more focused beam. Powered by 54 batteries, the Maxablaster's light beam can light up a cloud four miles high. An abundance of ultraviolet light gave the creator a sunburn in early testing. There are no plans to mass-produce it, which is probably a good thing."
