Spotted Maxell charger at Circuit City packaged with four 1850ma nimh's $20
Package states 1600ma, but bats could be seen to be 1850's, also claims to be a "smart" charger, overnight duration. Automatically determines bat. chemistry and charges each battery individually according to its need ... so says the package.

Anyone have personal use info?

Al, what are the specs on the bottom of the charger. mA out? Is it a real small charger? Sounds like a Maha without fast charge.

I would never buy another overnight / slow charger. Not just because of the time, but because of the technology that the rapid chargers use. They have many more safeguards built in to protect your cells. Good ones use -DeltaV and DeltaT (voltage and temperature sensors) as well Tmax (maximum temperature) and timers.

Overnight chargers typically use timers and a low enough charge rate to hopefully not hurt your cells and many will then go into a trickle charge.

My newest favorite charger is the NEXcell Optima. I got it from Sunn Battery (sunnbattery.com). It's cheaper on eBay (seller is ptron1) - about $20 or you can get it with (8) 1800 nexcells for $30. If you want to get multiple things, call them. They'll combine shipping. I've dealt with them for 3 or 4 years. Good company.

Good luck

Just for discussion ... I find that slow "dumb" chargers have their place (in my arsenal anyway). For instance, I sometimes use a Powerex MH-CR3 to charge 2 or 4 bats. overnight ... plug it in and forget it for a day or so. I've experienced good runtime with batteries charged in this way. And let's not forget this tried and proven method is still used with good success for equipment such as TIGERLIGHT.

If I need 'um quick: CCRANE

Looks the same as the above-mentioned Maxell ... perhaps the bubble-pac description of the Maxell charger as being an "overnight" unit is inaccurate ...
