I was curious, does a Lux III mod increase the throw over a standard mag incandescent bulb, or does it just improve the quality of the light. I’m thinking about moding a 3C mag, but would like to increase the throw, if possible. Plus, I’m really new to this, so the simpler the better.

What you are talking about is a very common mod. If you did a search, you will find all of the answers that you are looking for.

preview before your search... the throw depends totally on the reflector... the quality is not even in the same league.. there is a reason people don't use oil lights anymore... there is now a reason informed people no longer use smaglights.
