MC, 20XP, or Tigerlight?

I need opinions on which one of these stick battery lights is the king of throws? I have the SL20XP with a SL35 LA, and it makes a lot of light, but doesn't throw the distance I would relly like. Since this gets carried on a duty belt, I am only looking at the stick battery, and not HID, or spotlights.

A MC with WA1160 bulb instead of stock will throw like crazy, much tighter than the SL35 LA. Farther than the Tiger, too. I have or had all 3, and the MC is the thrower of the bunch. Not to mean the others are slouches, because they aren't.

Exactly as Phaser says. Comparing all three, the MC with the smooth reflector is the best thrower of the three. This is almost regardless of the bulb you put in. The SL gives the best beam IMO. The TL is somewhere in between.

The MC is my favorite. Best throw, adjustable beam (so it's not pretty, but sometimes handy), best build quality, cheap batteries, etc. Also has the widest range of available bulbs, even an SL-35X will drop in there.

According to a police officer in Belgium who bought my Tiger11 mod kit, and who owns a MC with UMP and 1160, he tells me that the Tiger11 with smooth reflector throws just as far as the MC60 if not farther, and that it is brighter and whiter. He is the only one I have been able to ask, however, as everyone else who owns a Tiger11 does NOT own a MC60 and vice versa. Certainly, the Tiger11 is putting out more lumens than an MC60, except maybe if the MC60 w/ UMP is hot off the charger and the Tiger11 is not. The 1/2D's that Wilkey used to make the UMP hold their voltage better than the KAN 1800's. So there's that.

Eh. ? They're both kickin' bright lights, that's for sure, and they both throw very far.

Stock, I'd have to imagine that the TL would kill the MC, but as I mentioned before, I've never used a MC, stock or modified, so I don't really know.

And then there's the Tiger85 and MC85. Mu hah hah ha! Now you're into another level of brightness yet again (as well as throw).

Stock, the Magcharger will out throw the Tigerlight. The Tigerlight however, with the newer lamps, produces a nicer beam at closer distances.

Unfortunately I can't find any beamshots comparing stock MagLite with a TigerLight. What I've learned is that the TigerLight has more overall light output (nice beam with enough sidespill) while the Magcharger can focus to a tighter spot and therefore throw a little longer.
If you need them for everydays duty (edd /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) I'd stick to the stock versions since they have enough output with a runtime that makes sense. If you want to go to the limits js is your man /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I'd go with the tigerlight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is the US vs TL throw beamshot on this link accurate? Seems to have different exposure settings for the 50ft test .

I have a magcharger, streamlight sl20 and stinger hp, and a tigerlight. I too carry them on my duty belt, One at a time of course. The mag in my opinion does have the throw. then the streamlight them the tigerlight. The tigerlight in absoulute throw was a disapointment. now for the real world. Twice this week I have been in manhunts in the city.
ranges were usually less than a block. I used the tigerlight and was amazed. It was great. Extrmely bright light everywhere. It clearly out illuminated every light there. Therer were the smaller surefires, streamlight stingers and magchargers.I am currently evaluating what light is going to be on my duty belt. It will either be
a tigerlight fbop possibly with one of js modifications or a stinger hp with the pila converion. The tigerlight is actually lighter and shorter than the stinger. With the pila/ultastinger conversion the stinger ought to be up there in candlepower. With the new pila 2000 mah batteries the stinger should have well over an hour run time. The mag60 will stay in my patrol car (too heavy and long for duty belt)

I have not made the beamshots, but if you count the rods of the fence horizontal to the beamshots you'll count 3 on both pics. If the distance would differ extremly there would be a difference of rods seen in the pics. I assume the distance differs only a maximum of 1-2 feet, enough that the big rod on the left disappears. imho this does not affect the quality of the beamshots.
BUT i don't think beamshots image the actual performance of a flashlight. beamshots are good to see in which league the flashlight plays but not how it performs in real life condition.

oklalawman, thanks for your post: you have the needed lights and you post your REAL WORLD experience which is worth a lot more in my opinion than beamshots and theoratical assumptions /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
