I'm looking for an P60 MC-E drop-in that will run on a range of 3.7v - 6v. I want to run it on either 2 x primary CR123 cells, or one 18650. Most of the drop-ins I see available now require at least 6v, and won't run on the single rechargable cell.

The only exception seems to be Nailbender's drop-ins.

Is that my only option, or am I missing something?

You could try something like this...http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21037
I have this one it allows you a couple of options. You could remove the spring and reflector and it will fit into a couple of single 16340 lights. For what it is, it is fairly bright. Not quite as bright as some quality mce or p7 lights out there, but a whole lot cheaper. I own a nailbender sst 50 drop in and the quality is good and it has proved reliable. I understand malkoff makes one, but I am not sure if it at the voltage rating you want. Good luck.

Note that it doesnt run 2x CR123....only single LI-on

I have that module, and let me just say its a pain to get it to fit well in certain lights. Im not sure about 18650 lights, but It takes an extra ring to fit it properly in my E1E- E2C- C head.

THe beam is also really ugly! and with a smooth reflector it has a massive donut hole, so big in fact, that its projected and gets bigger as you light up stuff further away.

with an OP reflector, it doesnt look as bad, and it makes a decent flood light.

but i will say that it a pretty bright, and i dont really regret purchasing it, however if you have the extra cash, probably better to get a nailbender

I have that DX drop-in and do not like it. I'm not fond of the strobe function first off. The drop-in I received will not keep the memory unless you leave the light off or on for a short time. It will not cycle through the levels and stay on the last one if you do it quickly. The low level also have a very noticeable whine.

I have one of Nailbenders MC-E drop-ins and it works perfectly. I wanted a warm LED and he was the only person offering one at the time.

You could also try asking Gene to make you a custom low voltage MC-E/P7.

I purchased 3 P60 drop-ins direct drive P7's and a MC-E this way from Gene early this year.

I called and asked for another one about 2 months ago and he said he will never again make them:mecry:

The current at the tail with the MC-E P60 DD was 4.5A.

The regulated Malkoff MC-E P60 is 2.4A and offers more out the front than the 4.5A due to heat:D

I would get the Nailbender MC-E drop-in. The DX MC-E P60 drop-in makes only 350ish out the front and has an okay beam, but the Nailbender version is a whole lot nicer and better built.

Deal Extreme sku 21037 should work

please note that this dropin does not work with 2xRCR123s, i own one and have tried it on both primary CR123s and RCR123s, it will flicker a bit and dimly light up but will not work except with a 18650 cell (or maybe a Cr123 and spacer but why give up runtimes with this config)

edit: oops, Crenshaw beat me to it
