Has anyone seen or tried to adapt the McE2S mechanism to the larger Surefire tail caps like the ones on C/P/G and some M series bodies. There’s plenty of room in there, and I like the feel of the larger bodies with my newly acquired Chopped KL3 head so I’m trying to avoid using it on a E series of equivalent body.

I’d appreciate any experiences, even failed ones.

jbev,

This very topic popped up in a thread a couple of days ago and I got the impression that "McGizmo" could do it. Sorry, I don't remember any other details. I will try to trach it down.

jbev,

I found a partial discussion on "McGizmo" (page 5) entitled McE2S & SF C/D TAILCAPS, but there is another one that I am still looking for.

No, but it IS one that I had forgotten about. I think the other one just confirmed that it could be done. What I can't remember about the thread is just how easily it could be done or even if McGizmo is WILLING to do it. The only thing it makes sense for is the L6 since the U2 would have all of the L5 bases covered far better and with very little extra cost, and the KL3 is already so low (17L/2-cell or 19L/3-cell) that it wouldn't be worth it.

For a normal KL3 that is definitely true, man that thing was a joke. No, I have a Chopped KL3 which is running around 850mA or so with a LuxIII. It’s the perfect walking light and I was thinking that a 2 stage switch would be the cats meow. Besides, the U2 is probably a ways off and who knows what the beam pattern will look like. In addition, I was thinking of making a LuxV version of the KL3 which may also need taming.

I think I may just order a couple of the mechanisms from the shop and see if I can’t rig something up. Just seeing one may be enough to inspire me pending an elegant solution from someone else.
