Hi All,

Sometimes it can be rough being a newbie. Of course this is made easier by all of the helpful and knowledgeable people here. So, in that vein, please bare with me as I ask this question, which I have tried to research, but have yet to find the answer to.

I am looking to buy the McGizmo Aleph 2 Level Tailcap, in Natural Hard Anodized, with a 22 ohm. I'd want it already completed, and ready to install, as I am as technically challenged a man whom has ever existed.

I was wondering if these were available yet, or if they might have been delayed due to the issues regarding the flickering/pulsing on some of the tailcaps that has been discussed as of late.

Any and all information, and preferably direct links, would be more than helpful and most appreciated.

Thanks,
John

John,
I expect that the shop will be selling these soon if not already. I have "closed" my custon order access for a short duration while I frankly try to get caught up on some piled up stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif I will be accepting orders again later this week for Aleph builds. In the mean time, for something as straight forward as a switch, I would be happy to build you one at 22 ohms, trim profile, HA-Nat, for $50. You can send me an E-mail with your mailing address if you want me to make one for you. Please put McE2S-T-22ohm-Nat in the subject line so I don't get confussed.

Hi Don,

Thank you for the quick reply!

I have just sent you an email, placing an order, with all of my info.

All My Best,
John

Does anyone already happen to have a pic of the new trim tailcap in HA-Nat on a Surefire E1e/E2e or something similar?

Perhaps the pic below will suffice??

Hiya,

I am posting to say that I received the Trim Tailcap in Natural Hard Anodized yesterday, and I am just getting a moment to post about it now.

As great as I thought the tailcap would be, it was so much better than I imagined. I really cannot put it in words, but I will try.

The fit was perfect, and although it is not always the case, the anodizing matched perfectly with my Surefire L4. Combine that with how it looked on the new rounder shape Surefire body, and it looks like it was a stock item. Incredible!

The beam on the 22 omh setting is bright to be very useful. The light is neither too low or too high, as it seems just right.

And even though it is the trim style, as opposed to the wider fit, it can easily and stably stand for candle mode should the need be there.

Plus, although the fit was close on the SOEgear.com A2P holster, the light fits very well indeed.

I wish I were able to be more technical on this post, but suffice to say I hope I can convey how happy I am with this purchase.

Many Thanks,
(A Most Satisfied) John

Six - is the low setting noticeably dimmer than the high setting? I'm trying to determine which resistor to select when I order one from McGizmo. I think I'd like a resistor that puts out Arc AAA light, give or take.

best regards

Mine just showed up (15 ohms) it is great with the BE1.5 body and the KL4. Thanks for getting it out so fast.

Powernoodle,

I will try to answer your question, but please keep in mind that I do not have much that I can compare the light too. Reason being that the only other light I own are two Mag Chargers, three Mag 3D's, one Mag 2D, three Mag AA's and one Mag Solataire, as well as my SureFire E2e.

The Surefire L4 with the 22 omg cap is certainly less bright than the light firing full power. How much so I am unsure. A complete guess might be that it provides 33% of the light than on the high mode. Having said that it is truly useful light, which I am guessing would help preserve night vision.

Unfortunately, I've never seen nor held an Arc. And for that reason I'd not be able to say how much light the 22 ohm gives off in comparison. Maybe another member can shed some light on the matter.

Having said all of that, I truly think that the tailcap is perfect, both looks wise, and usage wise, for my specific needs.

I hope that somewhat helps.

All My Best,
John

Yes, thanks. Just received my new L4 this evening. There are a few threads where folks discuss this question, but it is very subjective. One poster said that he couldnt tell the difference between 22 ohm (or was it 15?) and full power, so I was curious as to your impression.

Its no biggie as to what I choose, as additional resistors can be ordered and user-installed. Thx for your opinion.

best regards

I got the 15-ohm and in using the 150s in a BE1.5 I would guess about one third brightness I love it like it is, not sure if that helps any

My Aleph1 is running a NG BB at 750ma with a 15ohm switch. I find that with the aleph 1 head, low mode is rather useless in close-up use unless you're in a totally dark place because the hotspot is just bright enough but the side spill is almost invisible so all you get is couple of inches of visible useful light to work with.

Billson, good to know that you have an A1 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Hopefully, I'll have my own too...

According to the Aleph-FAQ, the 15ohm will have around 120-150 lux compared with the 400 lux of a stock Gen-2 KL1(LD-1W)... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Hi Johnny,

It's not the brightness that's the problem. It's basically the shape of the beam. On high, the bright hotspot plus the less bright side spill is very nice but on low, the sidespill is next to invisible so I'm left with just a circle of light no more than a few inches across. I wonder if the aleph2 would address this problem.

Billson,
The Aleph2 has a tighter and brighter spill beam angle with a broader reflected beam angle compared to the Aleph 1. It is better suited for closer work on both high and low beam, IMHO. Of course you give up the reach of the larger diameter reflector. If only spot beams would become flood beams as the target got closer and the opposite as they moved away....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don,

We're going a bit off topic here but is the 20mm reflector just as long/deep as the 27mm. I've noticed that the Aleph2 actually looks longer than the Aleph1?

Thanks.

maybe it is just an illusion /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
