When I have read about flashlights I am used to seeing brightness measured in candlepower. Reading various review sites now, I see measurements of lumes and lux (is that right?). Anyways, what are the different ways to measure and what do the terms mean. Thanks.

We have had a bunch of discussion on this topic in the past. Basically candlepower is a measure of intensity in the brightest direction from the source, and lumen is a measure of the _total_ light output from the source. If you use a big lens and a very tight beam, then you can get very high candlepower ratings without very high lumen ratings.

You should look at the following search and read the various topics:
Search: Match Lumen, Candela, Candlepower

yes.

a laser, for example would have *extremely* high candlepower readings, with extremely low lumen readings.
