my unit would restart aka do the countdown whenever a 4th battery was inserted. didn't matter which slot. So i started to think well this isn't slot specific so diagnosing by checking for shorts on each channel would be pointless. the board was clean no burn marks or corrosion. But then after messing around with i noticed the wall wart was red hot when i unplugged it. I took the adapter from an archer c9 router which was 12v center positive 3.3 amps and lo behold no more resets. i charged a bunch of batteries using all 4 slots to make sure there wasn't anything going on in the charger that might of killed the wall wart. the wart never got anything beyond mildly warm. so fyi to anybody that might be experiencing this issue just try a new wall wart.

Thanx! That is rather interesting, and potentially useful info. I've been gone from SV for 20+ years, but say 'Hi' to SJC for me anyway;-) Welcome to CPF, by the way!

Edited due to my having mis-read the model designation in the title:-(

The secondary side capacitors are bad.
Very common.
Your swaptronics test proves it.
C9000 originated in the capacitor plague era.
