I purchased a
Micro-Lux Solitaire
Mod by tonyb
microworks a couple of weeks ago.

At first I was not too impressed because it was not as bright as I expected it to be.

Now, after using it for a couple of weeks (with the original battery), I am VERY PLEASED with it.
I think one of the reasons that it does not seem very bright is the almost complete absence of a hot spot. It is just a VERY EVEN flood beam due to his optic.
That makes it a more USEFUL light for close up due to no glare back from a hot spot.
To me it is easier on dark adapted eyes than the less bright ARC AAA.
Battery life so far seems to be doing VERY GOOD for a Luxeon.

It has replaced my ARC AAA on a neck lanyard resting in my shirt and PJ pockets. I would not have thought that a light would replace my ARC AAA from there.

I think these tonyB Solitare conversions, (and most of the Solitare conversions), get a bad rap because people think they're getting a flame thrower instead of a nice white flood when they buy one.

A good while back I scored one of these at a "giveaway" price because the original owner was dissatisfied with the output. It has since become one of my favorites and one I use for jobs where I need to see "into" things. I fixed the innards of a door lock, (while the lock was still in the door), holding it all the while with my mouth. It lit up the insides nicely. I've also used it repairing old cassette/radios and seeing into dark cracks and crevices. Also, in complete darkness or dark areas, it lights everything up very nicely, thank you very much!

I carry it in my wallet now and it's always there when I need it and it lasts almost forever on a single AAA. It's brighter and SO MUCH whiter than the sickly ARC AAA and I wouldn't trade it for FIVE brand new ARC AAA's!

EXACTLY !!
I was expecting it to be brighter but, I am glad now that it is not. IT IS MORE USEFUL AS IT IS.
If you see another at a "giveaway" price PLEASE let me know.
I would hate to be without it but, also hate to pay full price for a backup.

NewBie,

"How is the runtime? "

I do not know for sure yet.
I've had it for over 3 weeks and I am on the origional battery. It has to be GOOD for a luxeon on an AAA.
My ARC AAA usually lasted me about a month.
