What is the lowest input voltage for a BadBoy coverter?? IE Would it be possible to cut a minim&g in half and run a badboy sandwich off 1AA Lithium?? Making what is now called a 'fireplug'.

I convinced myself that no amount of effort would persuade a CR123 into the mag body :-( so 1AA is all one can do to make the light more portable.

Any other suggestions or offers??

Yes I believe Rothrandir has machined those hosts, dat2zip can supply the drop-in circuitry, and ZenGhost was the one who tried putting in an AA-sized 3V lithium (which I gave him, hey gotta take credit somewhere!). Very nice results from what I understand...

Yep, if you're going to use a single "standard" AA, the madmax is much better suited than the badboy. The BB will work, but the light output will be patheticly low. If you're just tinkering, the BB with the 3v AA will work, but the extra expense doesn't give you any significant advantage over the alkaline AA with the madmax.

the badboys minimum voltage is 1.6volts, so that's more than a single aa can provide, but the madmax has a input voltage of anything down to .8volts.

a madmax works very well on 1aa (especially a lithium), but using a 3v aa works even better, and will work with a badboy also.

FWIW a CR1/2AA is a 3V lithium whose name describes it's dimensions. Some dive shops have them.

Ferrous,

Are you sure that is a 3V cell? The only 1/2 AA liths I have seen have been the 3.6V lithium thionyl chloride types which aren't much good for high discharge currents.
(Please don't tell me another, smaller formfactor, 3v has arrived /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Peter, somewhere Rothrandir managed to chop a minimag down to practically nothing, then bore out the battery tube enough to jam in a CR2. That's about as small a micro-minimag as one can conceive of.

Hmm--missed this thread somehow. PeterW, you can check this thread for details on what I did (pictures aren't working right now because my stupid site is down /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif ). I can't really take credit for much of anything except assembling the parts. Roth did a terrific job with the MiniMiniMag and Mr.Bulk supplied me with my first 3v AA batt and the idea. All's I did was pick up a MM+Q3, Kroll/RAM and put everything together.

It works good with just a regular AA alkaline batt, but kicks some *** with the 3v lithium AA. The MM+Q3 works great, but the MM+R2H has much better throw and is whiter than my Q3.
