Standing right beside you...
I recently picked up one of the new 2AA Mini-MagLED multi-mode Rebel lights. I don't have one of the old style single mode MagLED 2AA to compare it with, but I have a 3AA. I expected the new light to blow away the old, but the old 3W Luxeon 3AA was still noticeably brighter.

After comparing the old vs new D-cell lights (in which the new Rebel model was a lot brighter than the 3W Luxeon), I really expected this new 2AA to blow me away. I think I either have a weak newer 2AA or a strong older 3AA. Can anyone with both old and new 2AA models make a fair comparison?

Of course your old 3 cell LED will be brighter than your new 2 cell LED obviously because of the extra cell. Not a fair comparison. But as I read you are aware of that. So you can't come to a fair conclusion with the 2 lights your comparing. 2 cell to 2 cell, and 3 cell to 3 cell.

R2 will definitely be brighter, but here's a tip...
Go to the store, buy the old 2xAA version of your light without the multi mode, then return it after you did your comparison. Take pictures of their beams against the wall side by side and then post it here. If you don't want to take that approach, you can always keep the one you bought in the car as a spare light in case you have a flat or engine trouble at night. The old 2xAA LED is not obnoxiously bright which is good when you are trying to concentrate on fixing something in the dark. The perfect light for the perfect situation. I always keep my maglite in my glove compartment just in case my main EDC light runs out, I can either use it or take the batteries out of it and plug it into my main light! Although I would be SOL in that scenario with my Ra Clicky (CR123A) lol, So in that case, it would be beneficial for me to have.

I suggest you buy it, you know and I know that it will bug the crap out of you if you don't!
