I have a UBH II with a 1X123 extender, (12V total), and a KT2 turbo head. It works great with the MN60 LA and the beam is nice and bright. When I put in the MN61 LA however, (which as you know is supposed to be 350 lumens compared to the MN60's 225 lumens), the beam becomes slightly yellow and not as bright. If I put the MN60 back in, the beam is again nice and white. Anyone, (calling Al!), have a theory on what's happening here?
 
Hi Gene:
Al has been warning us about too many joints with the most powerful lamp assemblies. Too much resistance. The MN60 is the most powerful lamp assembly that I have used to date. It works fine in the same configuration you have described.

Have you lubed the threads on all the joints with a silicone based, dielectric grease? It is supposed to improve the conductivity of the connections.

If that doesn't work, try using a 9P with an A19 battery extension. That would be one less joint, eliminating the need for the E2C adapter. Again, lube with silicone based, dielectric grease.

To be honest, I don't know why it works either. It does improve conductivity though.

Does it hinder oxidation of the contacts?

Whatever, using the MN61 or N62 should be done in a light with a few "joints" as possible.

Thanks for the responses. I never thought about the extra joint issue with the UBH and the 1X123 extender. I don't have a 9P so that's out. It's strange though how well the MN60 works and the MN61's beam is so ugly and yellow. It does seem like there's resistance and it's not getting the full 12V's to it. I have used the #759G grease that Surefire recommends to use on the threads and bulb bases. I'll get some dielectric grease and try that. I'll play around with it and see what happens.
