my beloved nuwai is due for a revamp. it's gone through several stages but what i'm trying to do now is get an SSC U3 led in and run it with a 1a driver from shiningbeam. problem is the driver is much smaller than the original and will not make contact with the body ring. i thought about cutting a ring of copper sheet to make the body contact and then soldering it to the driver but that is easier said than done. anyone got a workaround or an equivalent driver with 21mm diameter? thanks!

I used the ring of sheet metal method.

First, clamp the sheet metal between pieces of 1/16" aluminum if you have it, or perhaps hard wood. Drill the hole, then cut around the hole with metal shears and sand smooth. Use flux to help solder it to the driver and be careful not to overheat the driver as it could be destroyed (ask me how I know ). For added strength, you can apply a thin bead of epoxy to the joint front and back with a toothpick. Then, fabricate a spacer ring out of solid copper wire to raise the star to the proper height since the driver circuit board is no longer occupying that space.
