I just got an email (I'm on a mailing list) from Avago on their new Moonstone 3W LED ASMT-MW20.

"3W Power LED Light Source is a high performance energy efficient device which can handle high thermal and high driving current. The exposed pad design has excellent heat transfer from the package to the motherboard.

Might be nice for a flood light if the CRI is through the roof (think sundrop, only brighter)

I just got an e-mail from Avnet advertising all of their latest goodies, and took a look at this LED. Seems nice enough, but when I checked Avnet's web site, they were back ordered 14 weeks. Doesn't look like I'll be ordering any soon.

Still... are they worth waiting for? Does anyone have any experience with them? It looks like they've done a good job with the thermal packaging. Much nicer than trying to use thermal adhesive to attach a Cree emitter, for instance, if you are attaching to a circuit board.
