Hi, I'm new to this section of CPF, a friend of mine asked me if I can turn in my lathe a few incans for him.

I said I could do them, using direct drive and 1 or 2 CR123

My question:

what is the best price/performance bulb for a light like the one described?

he feels comfortable with his Surefire e2e, so I'm aiming at that luminosity, a bit more is acceptable.

Thanks

Re: bulb selection question, xenon, krypton or sim

Your best bet is using 3 123's and a reflectalite G24 bulb. A lot more out put though.....i say about 3-4 times more.

for somehting a little less, i believe reflectalite.com has a few other bulbs as well, basically any bulb designed for 5-6 volts xenon bulbs will be adaquet for your 2-123 needs.

also check out the home made/modified section. you will amazing stuff there

Hi Peu -

Not quite sure what you are asking - are you making a custom light? Probably the best pure cost/performance lamp is the Streamlight Scorpion bulb, or maybe the Brinkmann Legend LX bulb (both for 2x123a). Both should be comparable to the e2e, depending on the reflector geometry you use.

Does that help?

yeah, I was asked to do an incan custom light, I 'm asking simply for bulb options, the bulb needs to be as bright as a e2e, not less, not more, just around that luminosity.

more options?

THANKS

I'm not a Modder but I would think the replacement bulbs for PM6 might do well. They come with an awsome Al reflector/bulb/holder...all one unit. I think $7.00 at Battery Station. I'm pretty sure that bulb set up will be brighter than an e2e so this may not be exactly what you want.

I'd like to see somebody do it because the PM6 is a bit on the heavy side.

I'd go with a PR bulb so that you he easily swap them out and experiment with different bulbs, even one of the many LED replacement bulbs that are available (i.e. the EverLED). I'd start with the 5 or 6 volt bulbs from Radio Shack. I'm not sure you'd get the same luminosity as some of the proprietary bulbs but he'll have all kinds of options.
