If your bulb is rated at 1000 hours or less, 12 rechargeable AA will work but if the bulb is 2000+ hours, 16 rechargeable AA will work best.
If you plan to use lithium ion cells, 5x26500 will be your choice.
For cheaper cost, you can use IMR 26500 cells in D size Ma*lite with proper centering tube.
