Just got my new Lumapower Lumahunter MRV SK v1.1.

Very nice light. Looks well made and is bright (however, it's still daylight, so I can't test it yet.

I have two questions:

1.) This light doesn't say v1.1 on it, so I'm not sure if I got the correct light. It says "MRV SK - Lumapower Innovative Flashlight", that's all.

It does not say v1.1 on the box or any of the paperwork. The paperwork which gives a little introduction shows how to use the buttons but doesn't say anything about a strobe feature.

2.) It doesn't seem to have a strobe function, which is one of the biggest signs that it's not a v1.1, could I have gotten the wrong light?

3.) How do I turn the strobe function on? (Maybe I am not turning it on properly, so that is why it isn't working.

I turn it on with the rear button, and adjust the brightness with the side button. It goes Bright, Medium, Low.

Is this side button that adjusts the brightness also supposed to turn the strobe on/off?

Yeah, that's exactly what mine looks like. Would it actually say "v1.1"?????

It only adjusts the brightness levels. There is no strobe that I can see.

This is what batteryjunction says about the MRV v1.1:

The MRV SK V1.1 is identical to the MRV SK except it offers a tactical strobe along with the 3 levels on output and has an 8% improvement in circuit efficiency.

Hi HEDP,

I think you have the regular MRV SK from your description, not the 1.1 version. I have all three currently available MRV's, the regular SK, the SK Ultra and the SK v1.1. They are visually identical and have no distinguishing markings. The S/N does start with the year and month of manufacture, so that may be a clue. It should be fairly new to be a 1.1. My SK regular S/N starts with 0808, indicating 2008, August. My 1.1 starts 0901, indicating 2009, January. The Ultra too has no special markings, just the MC-E pill. The Ultra S/N starts 0812, indicating December 2008. All were purchased between January 09 for the SK and the Ultra, and late Feb. 09, for the SK v1.1. The v1.1 did have a different instruction sheet which said v1.1 on it, and also described the strobe function.

If, when you cycle the mode button, you got three power levels and no strobe, it is not the 1.1 version. The SK Ultra and SK v1.1 both have strobe features cycled via the sidekick switch and both the Ultra and the v1.1 have a sidekick switch that is electronic, not mechanical. They can only be cycled while the light is on, though they will retain the setting you left them at on shutdown when restarting. The standard SK has a pure mechanical switch and will also come on at the power level you left it set at when shut, however, as it is mechanical, you can even change power levels while it is shut off by clicking the side switch. The v.1.1 and Ultra will not do this last trick.

Thanks. Yeah, they sent me the wrong light. Now I have to send it back. The serial # is: 0003812. (So was it manufactured in 2000, March)?

Is your Ultra much brighter then your SK v1.1?

I heard the Ultra is brighter, but it has a much wider spill, which wouldn't be as good for Law Enforcement work, what do you think?

The Ultra is very bright, but it is very floody, It does not have the throw of the Q5 equipped SK's. It also has a faint donut hole at close range, common to quad core emitters. I tried them all at an unlit boat yard near my house. The regular SK had the OP in it, the 1.1 had the SMO. The Ultra lit up half the boat yard. The Q5's were not even close to the spill width of the Ultra, so they are not as overall bright, but they make up for it in range. With SMO reflector, the Q5 was lighting up buildings on the other side of the inlet. They will throw a lot farther than the MC-E. As expected, the OP reflector caused a drop in throw distance, but the beam is a lot smoother and nicer looking. The regular and the V 1.1 perform identically, except for the strobe feature. The Ultra is a very different beast, despite identical looks. The MC-E is just not a laser beam thrower, but it can really light up a whole area. The SK and the Ultra make a nice complimentary set.
