I bought him an eagletac p100a2. He loved it. What a
fantastic light for 40bucks. But he left it sitting for awhile and when he went to use it the batteries were seized up inside of it. I got them out but there was alot corrosion in the tube and around the tailcap. I can't get it going. I guess the batteries melted or leaked or something. So here is the question. For 50bucks what is the hotshot 2xaa light, want both throw and flood like the p100. Maybe we should just look for another p100. Has a 2xaa hit 300 lumens yet? Would love your opinions. Last 2 lights I have purchased 1) eagltac t100 and my nitecore d10 with trit in the plunger. Love the d10.

He should buy postage for the damaged flashlight to be sent to the battery manufacturer, which will reimburse him for the damage.

Seriously, I got $50 for a remote control that was destroyed by leaking AA batteries. It's not uncommon.

That sounds like some alkaline cells leaked. If he enjoyed it, you can look at getting another P100A2, or even the P20A2 Mk. IIs. From there, Get him some Lithium primaries (energizer Lithiums) or some rechargeables (NiMH) so you won't run into the leak issue.

I love the iTP SA2 though, very versatile, only peaks at 190lm but has a variable circuit, and 3 modes. head switch to change between the modes, so the tail clicky doesn't do anything other than turn it on. Can also be forward or reverse clicky, just change it as you please because iTP includes a reverse and forward clicky in the package and install whichever one suits him best.

+1 on the Lithiums. From my experience, alkalines always seem to leak whenever left in lights for long periods of time. They're fine if you use the light regularly, but definitely use Lithiums if the lights are going to sit for a while...i.e. in the car, glove box, tool box, etc.

If he really loved the Eagletac P100A2, then just tell him to get another one and use Lithiums in it.

Any AA light driven hard (as all the ones mentioned here are) will run much better (brighter & longer) using NiMH rechargeables or lithiums. And they WON'T LEAK! What's not to like?
I put lithiums in the lights that sit in the car and don't get used much, have to perform in hot or cold weather, and must work every time they are asked to. For most of my lights I use the low self-discharge NiMH (Eneloops, Duraloops or Hybrids ). I can't say enough how great these are - very reliable and basically free energy once purchased. No reason for me NOT to use high beam if I feel like it. And they DON"T LEAK.

Get another EagleTac 2 AA - they are great. My last two lights were EagleTac P10A2 and a Nitecore D10. Great lights. Eneloops are working great in them.

try to get reimbursed

otherwise, if he likes eagletac, i'd recommend the p20a2 old version r2, it's a great thrower (i have no experience of the mk2 so can't comment but suspect less throw/more flood)

if he wants something with a little less output and a lot less bulk: fenix ld20 with clip, q5 or r4, doesn't matter which

oh and rechargeable lsd batteries, like eneloops. i don't think they are prone to leaking and are very cost effective/environmentally friendly (i'm no expert though)
