Anyone else have a Goldengadgets.com single CR123 flashlight that flickers occationally? I do! I sent it back to Goldengadgets for a fix. Got it back, . . . .it still flickers. Anyone else with this problem?

Anyone have a fix?

Is this a "you get what you pay for" kind of thing?

i really don't think you can expect much from this cause of the price you are paying compared to the more expensive counterparts you see. I myself got a 2 x 123a light on ebay and it flickered but i stretched the tailcap spring to make it a tighter fit and that seemed to stop the flickering in my light. that's all i could do there.

I have both the 1 CR 123a and the 2 CR 123a versions of this light - if you mean the S1703 and/or S1704. I had such a problem too. If you look inside the tailcap, there is a threaded aluminum retaining ring which holds the switch/spring assembly in place. Mine sometimes gets loose making the light flicker. This ring is actually the electrical contact between the switch assembly and the flashlight housing

With any pointed tool such as an awl, or a small snap-ring tool from an autoparts store if you have one (with 2 narrow prongs) you can easily rotate the ring to make it snug. But don't make it too tight because the switch doesn't like that either - I am not sure why. Anyway, that seems to do the trick.

put a nikel or a dime in there. it works

Yep, I have the s1705 and had a flicker, used a needle nose plier and gave the inside ring a slight rotation, took care of the flicker so far.

I'm not exactly sure which one mine is. It is the silver colored one with the 'dimples' on the tail and head caps and 'flutes' along the length of the body. Otherwise, it's a nice light with a pretty good beam color.

Sounds like the S1801

the only other 1xCR123A Luxeon they have appears to be the S1703

Does anyone know which light is physically smaller?
(I've written GoldenGadgets queries to ask this twice, and never got a reply)

Yes. The first one pictured is the one I have.

Anyway, I DID fiddle with that inside ring and my several initial test produced no visible flickering. I will continue testing it.

Thanks for the info on that!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Many thanks davidefromitaly.

Ironic that several months and inquiries to somewhere local in the USA.... and I finally get the answer from someone from Italy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thanks.

just recieved my s1801 and have to say for the money, i'm pretty happy with it. It's plenty bright, and absolutely unbelievably "white" light. I must have hit the jackpot with a good Luxeon or something....cause I was expecting a greenish tint. This has a better color than pretty much all of my other LED's, even as nice if not nicer than my Inova X03. No flickering, I must have just been lucky with this one.
