My Maglite 3D needs modding!

Malkoff breaks his drop ins into 2-3 cell and 4-5-6 cell versions.
You need a different drop-in for 4 cell.

Ditto for Terralux.
TLE-6EX for 4-5-6 cell, TLE-6EXB for 2-3 cell.

What amount of light OTF can i expect from the Malkoff drop-in? (EDIT: Ahh, it actually says in the text @ the site.. 260lm)

Down to what voltage is it fully regulated?

i'm new to this site so aint that clued up, but i have just bought a 3d mag and the terralux "140" LED upgrade......seems very good for the money and all you do is a simple bulb change....it might not be the brightest upgrade but it has an excellent battery life..........

 Pete! and :welcome:

Yes, it's a cheap and simple improvement of the 3D. Enjoy it!

There was a long thread on these forums by Big Waffles where he does runtime tests. What he found was that the MagLED module produces more light initially but then quickly dims as the module heats up and the Nite-Ize 1-watt LED upgrade then is brighter for a longer time in a 3D MagLite.

On the other hand, if you are willing to upgrade the emitter, the MagLED module with a Seoul P4 U-bin or better emitter will be brighter than either of these combos.

re: Oem upgrades - main problem with m@g's is the beggard thermal path from emitter to the case. Malkoff's wide base touches the case sides. Any smaller drop-in is severly limited in briteness as it can't clear the unwanted heat.

**Best just to mod it yourself. Heatsinks are readily available, pick an emitter tint you'd like and put it together. Very forgiving as all the parts you deal with are hidden back inside the case.

Besides a difference in run time, will the Malkoff 2-3D Mag drop-in provide the same performance in either a 2-D or 3-D Maglite?
