I purchased a Mce and got it on a nice star wired in series.... the Mce has the same foot print as the XRE stars ...its identical.... also my optics from deal extreem fit the dome foot print no problem...! I stuffed the mce into a stock maglight Optic.... the lense on the mce is from deal extreem its a 8 deg polymer lens that come 5 to a pack....
I am driving it with a 700Ma buck puck from luxdrive... i am running 4 3v rcr123a 900ma...from tenergy.. Feel free to post your Mce mods here also cause I want to see other modders Mce lights...!!

Just wondering how well the optic you have fits the MC-E dome?

I have an optic from a XR-E that almost fits. The MC-E dome is bigger, so the optic sits just on top. It still send most light forwards but isn't a perfect fit.

It sort of looks like the same in your case (third photo) where the optic holder doesn't quite sit flat on the mcpcb.

Could you take the optic out of the holder and tell us (or show us) how well it sits on the dome?

Why don't you just put the MC-E alone in the focus of the Mag's stock reflector without any stupid optics? :duh2:

All the surface of the reflector is unused, you can throw it away as well...

Strange solution indeed...

I think it looks great...!

Does it need the optics...?
Or does the optic make it floody and the reflector throw....?

(to put it another way......)

Because when I used only the Mce the mag reflector didnt get all the light from the Led.... it looks and is alot brighter with the 8 deg optic.... I am catching the side spill of light with the maglight reflector...
Beamshots or ban!

Welcome to CPF. Yeah, we can be a tough crowd, and a little too critical too, sometimes. Don't let us scare you off. CPF is a great place.

GAAAAHH that's like 8:00PM eastern!

I must admit, having not seen the beamshots yet I am a member of the "What the heck is that optic doing there?" crowd.

.........not sure what to think as well, but I must admit I still want BEAMSHOTS...haha ,We sure do love our beamshots. :grin2:
so......

OK Doc, it's dark out, I'm looking in the backyard, and it's most definitely dark enough for beam shots. Where are they? If yours look good that's what I'm doing!
:poke:

I'm looking toward Seattle and don't see the beam bouncing off the clouds yet... :naughty:
Very interesting putting the optic into the M@g reflector. I look forward to beamshots as well.

And the last shot is looking at the light from the left side as it sits on a ladder....

Ok i would describe the Beam as a large bright flood spill, its not a narrow tight type of a beam... As of How i shot these photo's for the photo peeps... I used a ISO speed of 400, and allowed a 4 sec exp. on the shutter ' using my cannon power shot As540.....
Thank you for all the interest ... i am a led nut job and have been waiting for these MCE for a long time.. I would have to say I would like to drive this chip at a 1000 Ma , rather than 700 Ma .. but I will wait for that chip also and hope it comes out soon...

I got that fine MC-E from Led supply.com its priced at 34.00 But I got it in 3 days after buying one. They always have fast shipping.. I asked them how many they have in stock and they said 150 pieces.. So go get one cause cutter and deal extreem have Long Long waits for shipping
