My New Fenix TA21 is defective????

First I just want to say hi ahead of time as I have been a long time lurker but am new to posting here. After reading several posts I decided to purchase my first researched high power LED Light, a Fenix TA21. I bought the Fenix TA21 from mycornerstore.com for only 67 dollars.

The light is good with the exception of it running for only around 2 min continuosly before it turns off! After turning off it wont turn on again for a couple hours. When it is off, and you try to turn it on, the led flickers so extremely low that it is almost impossible to see. It stops flickering when you turn it off again. A couple hours later it works great again for the 2 mins before I have to repeat the cycle. The light does not feel hot either when it turns off. In addition, taking out and putting the battery back in does nothing to fix the light as well. I'm new to buying flashlights as I have been using just my duty issued stinger. I also used to have a gladius that worked great but used up way too many costly batteries. Im using a new AW 18650 Protected 2600 mAh Rechargeable Lithium Battery (that I bought from lighthound.com) to run my Fenix TA21. I havent dropped the light or done anything to it other than carry it with me on duty.

Does anyone happen to know what the lights problem is? Could it be the battery or is my light defective? What should I do? Does this happen to other high power led lights? I really hope that you experts can help me out! Thank you for your time
 
It could be the battery, so you should try to use primary cr123a's.

Just return it to the store if it keeps failing. You probably get a new one.
 
i agree, just try using different batteries and if it keeps doing it, it is probably defective; in which case you should be able to get it replaced for free.
 
My light no longer has the weak flicker and now works constantly, but the light is very weak. So I changed the batteries to C124s and it still has the same problem. I am just going to return it on Monday and get an exchange that hopefully doesnt have the same problem. Thanks again for the help!
 
Weird, today mine stopped working completely, I tried replacing tail caps with a friends, changed the batteries. no luck. Was going to swap heads, but Im not exactly sure how it comes apart. (lost instructions) But the Problems got to be in the head

I emailed fenixoutfitters.com and fenixlight.com see what happens.....
 
Hmmm, I also have a TA21 with about 10 hours on it, so far so good. I'm using aw18650 2600, knock on wood . I like this light a lot ,especially the ui.

I would also like to find out how to service the head for led upgrades...

I do hope you meant cr123 batteries :)

Just do the usual cleaning. Clean all contact points the battery might touch.

If this doesn't work, just return. It's just a one off DOA.
 
kind of an update on my situation.

My emails to fenixlight were replied. I have to return my light to place of purchase. And from there, they send it to the US distrubutor, and if they cant fix it it does out to china. Expected wait time is 1-2 months if they can fix in the USA, otherwise 2-3 months!

i damn near pooped my pants. after bickering with the Chinese women named Joyce on MSN trying to figure out a way to speed this process up, ( she wanted nothing to do with it besides the good ol caned CTRL V reply saying there is nothing she can really do)Called my retailer today and asked what the deal is and he said he still has it cause hes waiting on something from the distributor. WTF!

so its been down for 2 weeks already and hasnt started its journy for repair! I told him to order me a new one because it only takes about a week to get them in. and if they can fix it im going to see about exchanging it for a different model.

this is such a joke.

I'm going to do you a very big favor.

In future reference, NEVER buy a Fenix from ANYWHERE or ANYONE other than 4sevens. I had a problem with two different Fenix lights (normal, expected problems) and shipped them back to GA to receive replacements in less than two weeks.

I'm positive everyone else has very similar experiences.
