Hey all, just felt like sharing the news. About a week and a half ago I started a new job at a Camping World facility. Note to Mods and Admin, I don't intend this to be a commercial post or spam, so please don't take it as such. And to all of you here, yes I know, and they even tell us this during the training... like all big chain stores, some people love Camping World and some people hate it. That's just part of working for a big chain.

Anyway... the industry I had been working in for over a decade took a big hit and the company I was working for closed down. No other jobs available in that industry. After months of looking for ANY job I finally got hired as a Product Specialist at a Camping World retail outlet. Mostly that means I sell retail camping products to customers. We also sell RV replacement parts.

As a life-long camper and an RV owner for many years, and someone that has repaired various things on many RVs, this job is a good fit for me.

But as a flashaholic it's a little disappointing that this major camping store only carries a few flashlights. The website isn't quite complete in the flashlights that we carry, but as far as I can tell we only sell Coleman lights. A couple of them do have CREE emitters, but not the best ones (if memory serves they are like 115 lumens). I will research the lights we carry much more once the new-job learning curve has settled down.

I sure would like to convince them to carry more flashlights, but you all know how that goes. How much can one employee do to change the mind of the main management? Probably not much.

Anyway, just thought I would share. As far as I can tell so far they are a good company to work for, and speaking from experience, MUCH better than not working at all. :D

My guess is that it would be like trying to empty the worlds oceans with a teaspoon.

Doable but it would take an eternity.

It all comes down to money. If you can somehow show that carrying a wider selection or better flashlights will bring in more money, I'm sure they'll listen. All you have to do is make a case.

But my guess is it would be a difficult proposition. What type of consumer shops there, and how many of them would be willing to drop more than $30 on a flashlight? Stores don't like carrying inventory, so unless something like that has quick turnover they may not want to take the risk.

I hope you have better luck at a store that sells stuff for R.V. owners than the R.V. industry has had lately. The R.V. industry combined low gas mileage vehicles when gas was over $4 a gallon with a moving home during the housing crisis. Good luck. By the way, Coleman has had some good lights made lately. Try to get them to stock the higher end ones. The 4 Cree lantern that is over 500 lumens is good. The 3 Cree 530 lumen spotlight is good. The Quad lantern is nice as well. Coleman's 1 and 2 cell 123A Cree lights seem nice. They have a couple of Cree headlights as well.
