I gently suggested to my beautiful wife that what I would really like for my birthday this year is a Peak brass Matterhorn, 1 LED HP with a pocket body. I love Peak brass, and have developed a particular fondness for the 1 LED models---they give out just the right amount of light for nighttime reading in bed, poking around a dark house, trips to the bathroom, etc., and have great runtime and "battery vampire" capabilities. I really liked the length-to-diameter ratio of the Matterhorn pocket body, as well as its tailstanding ability. So, as I said, I gave my wife a little---well, OK, a very specific and detailed---"hint". :naughty:

She contacted Robyn at Peak, and arranged for just what I wanted. She also spoke to Curt at one point, who couldn't have been nicer. My beautiful little Peak Birthday Special arrived in time to make this one of my best birthdays ever. I sanded the LED a bit to smooth out the beam, and I can already tell this will be one of my favorite nighttime inside-the-house duty lights. It is even smaller than I had expected, as you can see below. I thought my EO1 was petite, but the Matterhorn does it one better---about Arc size, but in brass and it tailstands! :)

A big hearty "Thank You!" to Robyn, Curt, and everyone at Peak, (as well as my wonderful wife!) for making my birthday wish come true! :twothumbs

You have gotta get tired of that light sometime.:paypal:

Happy Belated Birthday!

Nitroz and shomie911, thanks for your comments. I'm doing a little informal runtime test now---almost 6 hrs. so far on an AAA eneloop, and still going strong.

I have become a big eneloop fan......I picked up a couple of baltic's during the luxeon sale- but my SS matterhorn HP 3 led is still on my keychain as my edc. I can't bring myself to take it off. Evidently they still have some brass bodies left- I love the smell they leave on my hands and the patina- they just get better with age.

Thats a very nice gift. Brass pocket bodies are so enjoyable that you can fiddle with them all day long.

i'm the same way, even with all these hipower aaa lights available, there's
still a brass matty on every one of my keychains.

Thanks, fellows, for your posts. Also, MW, a special thanks to you for your terrific Peak Product Lineup "sticky". I haven't spent enough time in this Peak forum lately and have just now perused it. It's great to have all that helpful info. in one well organized place. In a way, though, I wish I hadn't seen it---after getting a close look at that Matterhorn knurled SS model, I'm already feeling another urge. Let's see....how long till Father's Day....? :naughty:

AF, you're a lucky man! Congratulations on that new brass Matterhorn. It's a classic.

When Peak had that brass sale a while ago, I jumped all over it and got a bunch of brass Matties (1 and 3 LEDs) for family Christmas gifts. Also warned everyone that these collectible little beauties could easily develop "legs" if neglected or not secured properly.

My own pride-and-joys are the 2 lug-body/3-LED M-horns in brass and stainless that I alternate on my beaded steel dog-tag chain (strictly for, umm, personal R&D, of course). Very comfortable with a light L92 AAA... with improved discharge curve. Probably use 'em more than anything else. Like you said, great house lights. Always "there".... and surprisingly effective tools for short-range outdoor tasks.

And ain't those class-act Peak folks great to work with?

AF, I totally know where you're coming from. I have a brass pocket body white 3-LED Matterhorn in the watch pocket of my jeans right now :D

Happy Birthday!

Hi, TW/Rick---great to hear from you. You were one of the very first here on CPF to school me on the joys of Peaks way back when. You were right then and you are right now---little jewels they are indeed!

a-o-d, thanks for the B-day wishes, and best wishes to the Matterhorn cousin residing in your jeans pocket.

BTW, the B-day Matterhorn is now at 11 hrs. in my little runtime test and still going strong. :) I'll have to continue this tomorrow since it has outlasted me---I'm hitting the sheets! :sleepy:

I just phoned Peak and ordered the same unit you have, but with a red LED for potty and other around-the-house stuff. Judging by how thrilled you are with yours, I cannot wait to get mine!

Additionally, the rep on the phone (I forgot his name) seemed very knowledgeable, and was extremely courteous.

Good for you---you won't regret your purchase. A red LED "house navigation" Matty sounds great!

I bet the nice gentleman you spoke with was Curt, part owner and Peak zen master. I spoke to him myself this week, as well as to Robyn, owner and Queen of Peak, about my latest Peak indulgence. I hope it'll be here next week, and you can bet I'll post a photo.

Great light! My next Peak will probably be in Brass (just classy looking!) I have a Pacific due in any day now (actually I was expecting it Saturday- so hopefully I'll have a nice surprise Monday when I get home!) Also Judging from your original post I believe we share the same Birthday (Jan 11) So Happy belated B-day! Any chance of some beam shots?

stefanj,

Happy belated B-day to you as well, though I'm a day earlier on the 10th.

As for beam shots, my poor photography skills have never made for very successful beam shots, I'm afraid. :shakehead
