Describe it in as few words as possible. Hopefully a few manufacturers will wonder in here and take notice. Anything goes though, as long as it's feasible. No 2000 lumen AAA unobtanium lights here. Keep it to the limits of existing technology.

I'll start (based on my limited experiences of course).

  • NiteCore D10 Size (smaller is not good in the hand, bigger is not good in the pocket)
  • AA Battery but 14500 capable
  • Sturdy, deep cary pocket clip (D10, Ra, LiteFlux, etc)
  • 150ish lumens for ~1 hour
  • 1 lumen or less low mode
  • "Clicky" (piston drive is fine, but no flakey behaviors allowed)
  • "Floody" (Quark XPG or NiteCore D10 floody. 5 foot hotspot at 20 feet give or take)
  • Good spill
  • White emitter (EagleTac White)
  • D10 "ramping" interface, but instead of a slow "infinite" ramp, 5 discrete brightness levels (double click = low, click hold = max, press hold = cycle through brightness levels) Levels = 1 lumen, 10 lumen, 50 lumen, 100 lumen, 180 lumen
  • Twisty activated beacon mode (tight/loose/tight = 0.5 hz blink at 100 lumens)
  • Programmable to get the last two items or any other that a person wants?

Have fun, but keep your responses simple enough to read through.lovecpf

Wandering into this thread .........

I will submit that ever finding the "Perfect EDC" ...... by most members ....

Will be like finding a " Unicorn " .

And that will be a good name for it ........ if they ever make one .

O come one, are you or are you not a flashaholic we want 1000 lumens for an hour runtime on a duracell AA, if a manufacturer walks in and sees everyone only wanting 150 lumens they wont bother pushing the forefront of LED design

Youve pretty much nailed it for me there. I would like to add

Tailstanding
Forward Clicky
Fully programmable
Warm tint emitter
More throw than flood

Can't believe I left tailstanding off my list. Good catch Abarth (is your name related to the Fiat? That's a sweet EDC too)

As for Gizmo and his damned spelling police, I wander why he's wondering in here at this hour? I must say though, the NiteCore Unicorn would be a saweeet light. Surefire would go green with envy.

I happen to own MY perfect EDC light; a McGizmo Haiku.

My policing ....... was very sub-tle .

Don't get all riled-up .

Most people just ignore me on here.
You are the first in a long time to prove you read my post

Just had to chime in and thank all who have posted so far for making me laugh... its great members like you that make me love these forums and make the graveyard shift a little less bleak... :twothumbs

My newly acquired Zebralight SC60 meets all my needs.

270lm for 2hrs or 140lms for over 4hrs
multiple modes for extended runtimes
low-low
18650
no more than 4inches

Never thought anything would be in my pocket after my HDS purchase but the size and power plus 18650 power source of the SC60 really has me excited about this light.

"spoiled people with too much money"

We are spoiled by good lights .

Glad to have you on-board .......... stay a while .

ToManyGizmos is right. I sincerely a:oops:pologize to the OP for going off topic...

My perfect edc would be a AAA or CR2 version of the Muyshondt Aeon in Natural HA3 with a high cri LED that is mostly flood and emits 5-10 lumens on low and 75+ lumens on high. Battery life would be really good--weeks or months on low, days on high.

CR123 or AA lights tend to be bulky and with the new LEDs you dont need the extra power. For a primary light I would go for something with cr123 or AA though.

Fortunately I can almost make that a reality, with the exception of battery life.
