Hi,

Some members may remember that last october I was particularily unimpressed with current caving lights
and was going to make my own.

Well the reason you havn't heard anything for a while is I have been having a little trouble with suppliers 'cutter electronics' taking orders for parts they havn't got in stock yet. After waiting too many months I switched to dotlight and got my new toys in a couple of days.

The low mode is more than enough for general use and is much brighter than most lights (the photo makes it look quite dim but that's crappy digital cameras for you).

The brighter picture is at 500mA, When my new board comes from fab then it should be able to peak at 2-3A for short periods, enough to flood a large cave chamber!

Very simple design and absolutly shock proof.
I drilled through one of my prototypes and it worked, I filled it with water, it worked, I swung the headset from the cable against a brick wall, the brick wall took more damage.

This thing is a proper caving light!

p.s. the last photo is me seing Faithless, but I'd like to think my torch can do that.

Lots of questions... What/where is dotlight? What are your light sources? Four star LEDs? What angles on the optics? What switch(es)? What current control/regulation?

dotlight.de is a german supplier.
4 x seoul p4
15,15,8,6
current control is by a n-flex from taskled.com
press switch on one side of the batterypack

max current output is 1A and the seoul is set up 2x2 so 500mA each on max.
My friend has just designed the worlds best driver board so that will soon increase to a meagre 4A each (short burst due to heat)

Do you cave at all?

Sorry Peter, just back from a few days away - caving, of all things. Did a total of seven and three quarter hours underground over a couple of days. It was a good chance to test some homemade lights caving, and store-bought lights camping. I'll do a write-up sometime soon.
