I wanted to try something different...with limited skills. I bought a pvc pipe connector. I have aluminum cylinder stock of 3/4 inch. I attached a bare seoul led...using the aluminum as the positive conductor. I only had to run a wire to the neg on the led. I carefully epoxied the outside of the led- while using arctic grease on the underside for contact. I used a Best Hong Kong reflector. Then I put a 18500 battery into the body, and attached the neg wire to a floating contact- so when I screw down the back end- the light goes on.

Note: there is only one wire attached to the LED. Magic!:D

:eek:oo: Oooh I like the white body. It makes the LED look yellow! Is that a warm white?
The photo is likely using auto white balance, with the flashlight itself (and ceiling bounce) being the only light source in the room. The reason the "fringe" of the light looks yellow is that phosphor LEDs generally emit yellower light to the sides, since the light travels through more phosphor when it passes through the emitter at an angle -- the light emitted straight out the front (and thus through the minimum amount of phosphor possible) will appear the most bluish. Generally flashlights that use reflectors will then have a warmer hotspot, with cooler spill. lens or optic based flashlights will generally have a cooler hotspot and warmer spill (as the light that makes up the hotspot is the light from the front, passing trhough the lens, rather than the light to the sides that hits the reflector.)

I love the elegant simplicity of this. You demonstrate something that anyone could do. Also with the line of Krylon Fusion spray paints which bond into plastic, you could have it look whatever color you wanted.

nice job!
love to see homemade lights:)
good idea on the plastic paint lux, but i would leave the original as raw pvc.

For msxtr.... My heatsink is a round aluminum cylinder about 3/4 inch in diameter and 5/8 inch long. I don't really have a good switch idea yet- just a spring glued to a piece of dowel rod- with the neg wire attached to it. It works ok..mainly use it to impress non flashlight types. It's actually very bright..unregulated...

Paypal ready - how much ? Just kidding.

Nice idea using everyday items to make a torch. Now if you could find a switch it would be complete. How about a door bell push switch on the tail end ?
